I am reaching my Family History. I am interested in finding other family members with the last of Matier. The spelling varies: McTier, McTeer, MacTier. As far as I can tell they originated in the Reidsville, Brownsummitt area in North Carolina. The names I have date back to the early 1800's. They are Patsy & Lindsay Matier, Richard Matier, Louis Matier, Richard McTier, Georgianna McTier, Thomas Matier. If you know of anyone with this last name, please send me the information on how to contact them. Also provide and advise on how I can find more information on my own. I see something in several emails about library searches. Could someone tell me how to begin there? Thanks in advance for any assistance you can provide. Email: MyMyra2@aol.com

Hello, Here is a site that will tell you what files to check to see whether you are infected with happy99 and how to get rid of it if you are. If you opened the happy99.exe attachment and saw fireworks, you will be infected. http://www.symantec.com/avcenter/cgi-bin/vsearch.cgi I had it once. I thought the fireworks were wonderful. I even thought about putting them on as a screen saver. :-( I didn't know I'd "caught" it until a person who received Happy99 from me told me. It is sent following a "real" e-mail and is sent at random, so not every one you e-mail will get it. I e-mailed myself to my other computer and the 2nd computer did not "catch" it. Several people expressed interest in different lines I mentioned in my last posting. I have my Gedcom loaded on the World Connect project on Rootsweb and decided that the best thing would be to list that here. My files, including notes, can be accessed at <worldconnect.genealogy.rootsweb/com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?db=connie_barber> I only follow direct lines so I do not have complete list of descendents beyond the children. Some of those covered are William Armfield, Jacob Brown, Moses Brown, Simon Hadley and others. I would be happy if anyone can add to the information shown. ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com

The Guilford County Genealogical Society has just reprinted the two volumes (in on book) THE OLD NORTH STATE, 1776, by Rev. Eli W. Caruthers, D.D. This classic book, first publiches in 1854 and 1856 is now indexed. This important tool for researching the Revolutionary period in Guilford County and elsewhee in North Carolina. Book is listed on the GCGS web site: http://www.greensboro.com/gcgs LEJ
Connie, I would be interested in what you have. Please post it to the list (unless I am the only one interested). Thanks, Dave Sloan Colorado Springs, CO.
All of these families were Quakers and lived in Guilford and surrounding counties at the time of the Revolutionary War. I would be interested in communicating with others researching these people or can post my information to the list if there is interest. Hello, I'm new and I need help. Well, fellow listers, I really don't know where to begin. First let me say that I am very happy to belong to the lists, I'm new to genealogy and I know that my lack of experience is one of my biggest pitfalls. I have joined the Guilford, Richmond and Moore county lists also, and will be happy with any help from anyone. One of my biggest problems is that I don't have anyone living to help be get past the first two generations. So here goes.... My name is Pamela Sue Repp, I was a PHILLIPS before I married. My daddy's people (PHILLIPS) are mostly from the Virginia/West Virginia area. My daddy was DeNeal Eugene Phillips, career military (US Army) of Elkins, WVA. He met my mother, Mary Louise CRISCO, in Greensboro, North Carolina in 1948 when she 19 years old and working at Prego-Myers (I think that is right). I know that my mother was born at home in the Ellerbe, North Carolina (Richmond County) area on July 18, 1929. She is the only child of Loyd Chrisco and Bertha Haywood Chrisco. Now, my grandfather, Loyd Chrisco died in March, 1965 and is buried in Greensboro. I'm not sure where he was born, but I've been told Moore County, NC. His birthday was April 12, 1902. I know that he had a brother John and a brother Daniel (there were others, but I don't know their names), and he had a sister Mary and a sister Sallie (there were other sisters, too). I think there were about 12 children, and the problem that I'm having is the spelling of the name. My grandfather spelled it CHRISCO, his brother John and Daniel spelled it CHRISCOE and my mother dropped the 'h' out and for the past 60 years has spelled it CRISCO. The only thing that I know about his parents is that his father was called 'Enny' Chrisco, and that his name was either 'Enos' 'Ennis' or 'Enoch' and that he was married to Amanda Russell. I know NO DATES, NO BIRTHPLACES, NO DEATH PLACES. I know that John and Daniel Chriscoe lived in the Greensboro area and most probably still have family there. My grandmother Bertha Haywood Crisco is still living (she will be 90 years old in January), but she doesn't know any further generations. She and my grandfather were married in Bennettsville, SC in 1928 and they lived in the country around Ellerbe before moving to Greensboro. My grandmother was born at home in 1910. She was the oldest girl and the fourth child of Chesley Haywood and Margaret "Maggie" Poplin Haywood. She does not know the name of her grandparents on her mothers side (POPLIN). The only grand- parents she ever knew were on her fathers side (HAYWOOD). Her grandfather was Benjamin Haywood and he was married to Margaret Cole. I know that my grandmother's youngest sibling, EJ (Edward James) called 'Eddie' Haywood was killed in action--WWII on a a ship that was bombed by a Japanese kamakazi pilot in 1945. I can't find any record of his death, not even in Social Security records. My mother can't remember the name of the ship he was on, but thinks that it started with a 'W'....I've tried looking up the battleships on the internet, and can't find a ship that starts with a 'W' that was bombed and sunk in 1945. I know that my grandmother had the following siblings: MARVIN HAYWOOD McCOY 'Coy' HAYWOOD FLOYD HAYWOOD EDWARD JAMES 'EJ or EDDIE' HAYWOOD all of the above are deceased..... the girls are: BERTHA HAYWOOD CRISCO (my grandmother) LULA HAYWOOD DUNN (wife of Elsie Dunn of Ellerbe) MAUDE HAYWOOD BRIDGES (Charlotte, NC) MARGARET LEE HAYWOOD KINNEY (Akron, Ohio) As far as I can tell, all the Haywood children were born in Richmond County. Does any of this info sound familiar to anyone out there. Can anyone help me??? Many thanks, Pam Repp Nashville, TN >>
You are right about the headache. I did notice a "Fecher or a Techer" b. 1832, and I wonder if that could be "Fletcher." My Julia Ann REED (b. around 1823-25 NC) married Abner PACE in Guilford Co., NC, in 1843. Their only child was JOHN FLETCHER PACE (1844-1901Rowan Co., NC). I speculate that the name John came from the Pace side but have been unable to determine the origin of the middle name FLETCHER, and have wondered if it came from his maternal side. There was some Reed/Reid tie to William Emory C. Reid/ married to Sue Bevings/Bevins in Rowan Co., NC around 1856 as Abner Pace was bondsman for this couple. The parents of W. E. C. Reid (groom) were said to be Nathan and Mary (Cottrell) Reid, married in Guilford Co., NC, in 1833. I have been unable to establish the exact tie to my Julia Ann Reed, nor to find her parents' names. I am searching for information regarding the Weeks or Wicks or Wix family in Guilford County, North Carolina. My ancestor was MARY POLLY WEEKS who married William Volner in 1817 in Sumner County, Tennessee. Her son stated on his Eastern Cherokee Application taken in 1906-8 (claimed through the Volner side) that she was born in ca 1800-1 at "Guilford Courthouse". In another place he says she was born in Pennsylvania. The census records for Mary Polly Weeks indicate that she was born in North Carolina. She was the daughter of either JOHN WEEKS/WICKS/WIX or of DANIEL WEEKS/WIX/WICKS whose widow was ELIZABETH. Daniel Weeks and John Weeks were in Sumner County, TN by 1816 and Daniel appears to have died ca 1828 when his widow ELIZABETH WIX was taxed for his 22 acres of land. An Edmund or Edward Williams somehow had claim to this land also. I haven't figured out yet how. Descendents of this family who still reside in the area spell the name as "WIX". Was this DANIEL WIX the same DANIEL WICKS who married ELIZABETH WEITZEL on 23 Feb 1779 in GUILFORD COUNTY, NC at the Brick Church? Elizabeth's father was Henrich Wetzel. Does anyone have any information regarding this Daniel and Elizabeth WICKS/WIX? Is this the same DAniel WEEKS who bought land from JONATHAN SUMMERS in ORANGE COUNTY, NORTH CAROLINA on the south side of the Haw River on the bank of Reedy Fork on 23 September 1799? This deed was proven in May Term 1803 and delivered to Freeland Sutton. The Summers and Sutton families were living in Sumner County, TN. The Suttons intermarried with the WEEKS family in TN. This DANIEL WEEKS sold part of this land in 1802 to MICHAEL COCKLEDRESS. A Cockledress family also was living in Sumner County, Tennessee in the same district as the WEEKS/WIX family. My JOhn and Daniel Weeks of Sumner County also were involved with the SMOTHERS family of Sumner County, Tennessee who had come from Orange County, NC. Bondsman for Mary Polly Weeks marriage was ELI SMOTHERS. Is anyone working on any of the families? Was DANIEL WEEKS of Orange Co., NC related to JOSEPH WEEKS of Orange who married ANN THOMAS? ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com
