Hi, all, I have been recently sent a partial GEDCOM of undetermined origin which indicates that my Thomas R. STONE [b. 1825, Caswell Co.- d. 1864, Richmond, VA, 13th NC, CSA] may have been the son of John D. STONE, who, the GEDCOM says, d. in Oregon Hill [Oregonville?] Twp., Rockingham Co., about 1859. The GEDCOM states that John was the same man as the son of Epaphroditus STONE, who d. 1811 in Caswell Co. Other sons of Epaphroditus STONE and his wife, Lucy were also named in Epaphroditus' will: Tillman, Robert, Peter and James STONE. John D. STONE m. [reportedly 2nd] in Rockingham Co., 1846, to Nancy J. HARDIE; his first wife is stated in this GEDCOM to have been Ellender TRAVIS, whom it states he m. 1822 in Pittsylvania Co., VA. Ellender is stated to have been the mother of John's children: (1) Lucy Frances STONE m. 1847, Caswell Co., NC to Martin Joseph DURHAM, Sr. ----- (2) William Epperson STONE, b. 1830, Caswell Co.; d. ca. 1905, Reidsville, Rockingham Co. ----- (3) John F. STONE m. 1853, Caswell Co., Mary E. FERGUSON [this marriage was witnessed by my Thomas R. STONE!] ----- (4) Robert J. STONE, d. 18 Mar 1912, Reidsville, Rockingham Co.; m. (1) 1856, Oregon Hill [Oregonville?] Twp., Rockingham Co., Mary HORSEFORD [HORSFORD]; m. (2) ca. 1859, Mary Ann MITCHELL, d. 25 Dec 1919, Reidsville, Rockingham Co. ----- (5) Pinkney Washington STONE, b. 13 Mar 1838, Oregon Hill [Oregonville?] Twp., Rockingham Co.; d. 24 Jan 1924, Reidsville, Rockingham Co.; m. (1) 1862, Rockingham Co., Mary Jane LEA [LEE], b. 29 May 1844, NC; d. 24 Sept 1884, Rockingham Co.; m. (2) ca. 1887, Martha Ann MILLER, b. NC; d. 21 May 1911, Reidsville, Rockingham Co., NC. - ---------------------------------------------- In trying to place the Stones of Rockingham, I investigated to some extent, Stoneville in Rockingham Co. [which, it seems, was Mayo prior to 1877.] The history of Stoneville at the American Local History Network site indicates that Stoneville was named after Pinkney and Thomas STONE, who were merchants in the area [I don't know if that may have been sometime before 1877, but seems most likely. Rev. Frank R. STONE was the first mayor of Stoneville following the name change from Mayo.] Was this the same Pinkney STONE as the son of John D. STONE? Does anyone out there know anything of any of these Caswell/Rockingham/Person STONEs and the allied families? Anyone know whose GEDCOM this is??? Have any documents of any sort with ANY of these names in them? I suspect my Thomas R. STONE to have been a "lost child" [the eldest?] or other close relative of John D. STONE. Also, is there a Rockingham mailing list? [Could not locate a link on the county webpage.] Thanks for your help! Pam pamstone@digital.net
Most, if not all, my proven Quaker lines came through Nantucket, Massachusetts and Chester County, PA. All my Quaker lines were in Guilford/Randolph cos., North Carolina at some point, and later on, all my Quaker related lines were in Randolph/Wayne/Henry Cos, Indiana. I tend to believe that my 3x great grandmother Jereter(1802-1876), wife of Wiley WALL (1799-187x?), was born a Quaker in NC and remained so until her disownment, for non-attendance, in February of 1840 from Providence Preparative Meeting (recorded in Center MM records). There is a Rachel VICKERY, parents unknown, who was also Quaker, at Marlborough MM, in Randolph Co., NC about the same time that Jereter was a member of Providence Preparative Meeting, Randolph Co., NC, under the care of Center MM, Guilford Co., NC, and which was the closest Meeting to the east and not far east from Vickery Mill and a bit south of Christopher VICKERY's plantation in the northernmost part of Randolph County, next to Timber Ridge Baptist Church, where old Christopher VICKREY (1740-1841) was a Baptist minister. Jereter would have been his granddaughter if I can prove the Vickery lineage somehow. The Vickery line is the only line I have found in my family Quaker history that apparently did not originate in PA or MA. Rachel VICKORY moved to Marlborough MM from Center MM, dated 1835,5,20. The spelling of VICKORY is consistent with that of Sampson VICKORY (b. 1757) whose daughter, Kessandria VICKORY, married in 1800 Absalom VICKREY, son of Christopher VICKREY. Kessandria and Absalom were half or full first cousins, depending on the true parentage of Sampson VICKORY and Christopher VICKREY. (I believe they had different mothers, but the same father, Marmaduke.) Rachel transferred her membership back to Center MM, NC on 1840,5,2. On 1847,3,6, Rachel again transferred her membership back to Marlborough MM from Center MM, dated 1846,11,21. I am in the middle of requesting copies or transcripts of the original records. Rachel's maiden name is indicated to be (VICKERY), but may actually be an alternative spelling by Hinshaw's abstracters. If Rachel Vickory, born on May 11, 1804, died March 10, 1864 and Jereter ____ Wall, born Aug 31, 1802, were sisters, I have no proof of this but do strongly suspect this based on the location of Providence Preparative Meeting and the fact that its records were kept by Center MM in Guilford County. (The Center MM women's records are lost prior to 1835 and men's minutes lost prior to 1825. ) This is why it is so difficult to reconstruct this particular Quaker Vickery family! No one seems to know who all of the children of Sampson Vickory were but some of them are known. Kesssandria was born in the right timeframe to have been one of Sampson's daughters. Kessandria VICKORY, born between 1781-1782, daughter of Sampson VICKORY and Charity ROBBINS, is not confused with Cassandra Vickrey, born abt 1806, who was dau. of Francis Marion Vickrey and granddaughter of John Vickrey. If anyone can help, or continue to help reconstruct any such Quaker Vick*r*y lines, I would appreciate any ideas or suggestions on this. Thanks, Tim Walls

Hi, Taylors, I have followed a long & winding road through VA & NC, tracking Joseph TRAYLOR [found also as TAYLOR; this occurred in VA also...] Joseph d. 1794, I think in NC. I am hoping to make connections to those who have him as Joseph TAYLOR. He may have been related to a Phillip & Nancy THOMAS in Granville, as he acted for a Mary Ann THOMAS to force Joshua COFFEE [COFFEY] to bring to Court the children of this couple. Definitely, my Joseph TAYLOR/TRAYLOR was related to a DAVIS, either in Caswell or Granville---I believe one of his daughters must have married one, and this Mr. DAVIS was deceased by 1786 (possibly his daughter was also, but possibly not, as children whose father had died were often placed in the guardianship of some male family member, regardless of whether their mother was living.) Does anyone recognize any of these persons??? I have good documentation for Joseph, except no will yet. He had a large family in Brunswick Co., VA, including his wife, Elizabeth, and children, at least: Edward, Thomas, Elizabeth, Lucy, Martha, Joseph, and John [who appears as John TAYLOR in 1790 in Caswell Co. with Joseph, and appears to have been his youngest son. John moved to Edgefield Dist., SC. Anyone who traces back to a John TAYLOR there may be looking at John TRAYLOR...] Col. Joseph TAYLOR in Granville records may be the same man as Joseph TRAYLOR of Caswell & Brunswick, VA. He may have also been in Guilford Co.; there is some indication of that, and he might be found with a HOWERTON or HOWINTON/HOWENTON/ HOWINGTON. I would REALLY love some help sorting out this puzzle, and hope there is someone who has more documentation on Joseph TAYLOR/TRAYLOR in North Carolina. HELP!!! Please reply directly to my E-Mail; I am having to unsubscribe to this list. THANKS! :-) Pam pamstone@digital.net
