Mississippi just this week, was order to remove the Confederate Flag emblems from the State Patrol Vehicles and in South Carolina, it is being debated at present time to remove their State Flag from the Capitol Building. Considering that our heritage is being completely rewritten because of a minority being offended by it presents. They want to pretend that a War for States Rights, prior to The Emancipation Proclamation Act of 1863, was never fought and that they where never slaves. Considering that this Slave Issue Act was only enacted because the North was losing said War and was in need of a causes in which to get more troops enlisted, when taking into considering that said troops had lost interest and had dwindle from the fact of desertions. Therefore, The Emancipation Proclamation Act which made an issue of slavery. Should the matters of Flags, Plaques and Statues continues, then out ancestors will be forgotten as never existing and their ancestors never exited as slaves, thereby rewriting of history. Next thing you know, these same minorities will want the Bible rewritten, not wanting to acknowledge the fact that Israeli once was enslaved by the Egyptians, until God interceded into the situation and sent Moses to deliver is people. Even the Israeli people accept their heritage and even their scholars acknowledge in their writings, as being facts. Further considering, it would appear that the Black people are ashamed of their heritage and are offended by any reminder of an era 140 years ago, and have no knowledge of the facts of said Civil War. Therefore, what you have written regarding the noted historian and author, Bruce Catton, ("The Civil War is the thing that makes America different. It was our most tremendous experience, and it is not quite like anything that ever happened to anyone else".) continues to ring true, or at least give us something in which to think deeply. See Ya! I have been advised to send requests to all the above sites in search for my 2nd great grandfather JACOB LEONARD and his wife REBECCA ?(Unknown). He recieved 200 acres of bounty land in RANDOLPH COUNTY N.C. in 1799, so we know he served in the REVOLUTION. We have a family tale that tells us that he defected from the HESSIANS. I just found out today that there were BRITISH SOLDIERS in the HESSIAN REGIMENTS, and am now looking for him to be from ENGLAND ,rather than GERMANY, where I have been looking. He raised a family in RANDOLPH COUNTY and with evidence from the public library there in RANDOLPH COUNTY, he passed away between 1830 and 1840. He is in the 1830 census, but only REBECCA is in the 1840. She must have passed away within the next census year as she is not listed any more. JACOB donated the land to build the CHRISTIAN CHURCH AT PLEASANT GROVE, but no one can tell me whether he is buried there, or any positive dates for his nor REBECCA'S death. His known chi! ldren are HENRY, b. 1789, married PATSEY RAINS 1810..... SALATHIEL b. 1799, married ELIZABETH LAMB 1815 .... JOSEPH, B. 1795, married NANCY ?..... MAHALA b. 1800, married ? WILSON in MOORE COUNTY..... NANCY, b. 1802. (never married?) , , Any information about these folks is RELEVANT! They are not to be confused with the "VALENTINE LEONARDS" IN DAVIDSON COUNTY. I thought there might be a few who would like to see my response to Linda Bonnell regarding the PEGGs. Marsha Linda, This is some of what I have on the PEGG family (undocumented by me. I am not a descendant.) . . . . . Lousia Hurt PEGG (nothing further), dau. of John Austin PEGG and his 1st wife, Martha ? He was b: ca. 1790, NC, d: 2/25/1872, Greene Co, IN. He md: 2) Sarah Ann (Dewitt?) Scott, March 11, 1838, Greene Co, IN. John Austin Pegg was the son of Valentine PEGG and his 1st. wife, Mary STAFFORD. Valentine was b: April 10, 1744, MD and d: Nov. 24, 1828, Whitewater, Wayne Co, IN. Valentine md: 2) Mary MILLS on Feb. 12, 1808 and 3) Sarah (Small) GRIFFIN on April 4, 1821, Whitewater, IN. Valentine PEGG was the son of William & Margaret PEGG. William was born abt. 1700 in St. Ives, Huntingdonshire, Eng. and died in Kent Co, DE (no date given.) Valentine and his brother, Martin PEGG, were members of the Nicolites (religious sect much like the Quakers, only much stricter) from the MD/DE area. Many of these Nicolites migrated to Guilford Co, NC, near Jamestown on Deep River, by ca. 1800. However, the PEGGs did appear to go several years earlier. In Guilford Co (after the Nicolites ceased to exist), I believe they became Quakers. Hope this answers some of your questions. Hi Mitch, Am interested in information on your Reuben Ross. We've researched the ROSS family in MD, and have oftened wondered if, perhaps, this same Rueben Ross in Guilford was one that we had found (earlier) in MD. There's a slim chance that an ANDERSON family is connected, and Rueben MAY have migrated to NC with some of the Nicolites from Caroline Co, MD area. Please contact me so we can compare notes. Thanks.
