    3. I think the question was why doesn't NARA digitize its records instead of continuing use of paper and microfilm records. There is no answer for the question there. What is the reason? Volume? Lack of commitment? Inadequate staff? ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com

    3. Dear Dan, Thanks for your posting on the Brown's in Rowan. I have checked out the book. Mine are the ones in the book who went to Union Co IL in about 1818. Unfortunately I can't link my Elizabeth Brown who married in Union in 1818 to the correct father. Or there is a Benjamin who might be her father and I can't find out where he came from. I also can't find any links between these Browns and the ones in Guilford though they were both German. Betty

It sounds like you answered your own question, in changing from tax supported to more user supported. From some of what I have seen, you would also automatically receive entire files, which for Civil War Pension Files can often run hundreds of pages, rather than the "selected" pages you now receive, and this would actually be a price decrease for many users that request the entire file. By copying entire files rather than having to go through and select records, it would speed up service. As listed, once they reach a decision, there will be a 60 day period for public comments. 3. >From Jack Brissee [jbrissee@earthlink.net] [APG] re: Cost of Military Records Going Up (NARA Statement) There have been postings on a number of mail lists recently about an increase in the fees the National Archives and Records Administration (NARA) charges for copies of compiled military service records and pension records. While NARA is considering a change to the fee structure for these documents, the information that has been posted is both premature and somewhat inaccurate. The Records Preservation and Access Committee, a joint endeavor of the Federation of Genealogical Societies and the National Genealogical Society, has contacted NARA officials for clarification. The following is the "official NARA statement" issued in response to our inquiry: -Begin NARA Statement: The National Archives and Records Administration (NARA) will be issuing a proposed rule within the next few weeks that will revise fees for reproduction, including the "fixed-fee" orders in the NATF 80 series. The proposed rule will have a 60-day public comment period, during which time we will actively seek the comments of the user community. The proposed rule is presently undergoing internal government review. When it is released for publication in the Federal Register, NARA will notify the national genealogical organizations and post a copy of the proposed rule on its web site. The message will include the exact URL and the address for sending comments. -End NARA Statement- The Records Preservation and Access Committee will continue to monitor this proposal, and will post relevant information on the Records Preservation and Access pages of the Federation of Genealogical Societies' Web site (http:www.fgs.org) when it is available. 2. Hi all, This was posted on another list and is a HEADS up for us all: "Last night at a lecture, I was talking to my friend & colleague Dr. Robert (Bob) PLOWMAN of the Mid-Atlantic National Archives in Philadelphia. He told me that on July 1, 2000, the cost of the Military Records was going from $10.00 to $17.50 & the cost of the Pension Records from $10.00 to $40.00 this is for the Revolutionary War, Civil War, etc. So you may want to send for these records before the cost goes up!" I just called the Branch Office in San Bruno, California and they verify that there will be a price increase, but they haven't received the official word as to just when it will be effective. I am neither agreeing, nor disagreeing with you. BUT, this is a genealogy site to help others find information on their ancestors. It is not a place to air your beliefs at free will. It takes up valueable space and time that alot of giving people wish to put to genealogical use. Could you please stick to the subject at hand; Guilford, NC. He married ELIZABETH SHAW, 4 Nov 1779 in Guilford Co., NC (available at Raleigh, NC) and was in the Revolutionary War at the battle of Guilford Court House (Pension #R7431). Family tradition tells that his ancestor/ancestor's were from Ireland. Worth S. Ray's book Tennessee Cousin's tells that his father was Rev. David Morrow, son of David Morrow, son of Alexander Morrow, son of David Morrow and son of Daniel Morrow. Internet accounts of this family say they were from England. If these accounts are true then I do not believe Rev. David, and etc. are the correct ancestors. Is there a will or probate records for Rev. David Morrow? Is so, what/where can it be obtained? 3. I do not have any direct information about Enoch Causey. However, I have a Causey connection through my Tucker ancestors in Guilford County. Margaret "Peggy" Causey (1760-1844) married Levi Tucker (1755-1816) in Maryland about 1781. He and Margaret moved to Guilford County in 1785 settling north of Pleasant Garden at Vandalia. The information I have regarding Margaret's father Zebulon is: The CAUSEY and KIMMEY/KIMME families apparently were connected to the Nicolites of the Caroline Co, MD (originally taken from part of Dorchester Co) area, and probably were in some of the earlier Nicolite groups who migrated to Guilford Co from that area (ca. 1774/75.) GUILFORD CO, NC WILL ABSTRACTS, pg. 144 (Unrecorded Wills) . . . ZEBULON CAUSEY - 13 Mar 1809 - Prb. May, 1809 Wife Dianer - house, plentiful maintenance, household furniture, sorrel horse called Bret, cow & calf, ewe, sow & pigs. Son: Zebulon - plantation at decease or remarriage of my wife. Sons: John & Soloman, dau: PEGGY TUCKER - balance of stock & household furniture. Gr dau Peggy Causey - 10 pounds of good new goose feathers. Exr: Son Zebulon Causey Wits: Hugh SHERWOOD, William FITZGERALD (my note: The SHERWOOD's were originally from Caroline Co, MD, also. This Hugh SHERWOOD migrated to Washington Co, IN by 1820. He was a close neighbor of my ancestor, ANDERSON PAVEY ... whose parents were John PAVEY - (Mary?) ANDERSON, connected to the Nicolite ANDERSON family. Hugh SHERWOOD lived very close to Pleasant Garden in Guilford Co.)
