Posted on: Guilford Co. NC Query Forum Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/NC/Guilford/1513 Surname: McLean, Paisley ------------------------- Now, can someone help me? I want to find the gravesite and/or home of John McLean's daughter Elenor McLean Paisley, married to Wm. Paisley, Sr., died in 1750, some say in Lancaster County (though may not the Lancaster Cty. known today) and some say 20 mi. north of Philadelphia on Schulkyll River (Norriton or Philadelphia County then) - which is not near Lancaster. She may be buried near her father, who died in 1791.

Posted on: Guilford Co. NC Query Forum Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/NC/Guilford/1511 Surname: Kirkman, Cox, Blackburn ------------------------- I have found on Ancestry.com the North Carolina Marriage Bonds, 1741-1868. They have listed that Nancy M. Kirkman married Jacob Cox April 12, 1844 in Guilford, County, Record # 01 100, Bondsman Jonathan Parker, Witness: John M. Logan, Bond # 000054559. If anyone has any information regarding Nancy M. Kirkman, I would appreciate hearing from you. I believe that this Jacob Cox is my great, great grandfather. However, information that has been handed down in our family is that his wife was Nancy Blackburn. Was Nancy Kirkman's maiden name Nancy Blackburn? Can anyone help me clear up this mystery or did Jacob Cox have 2 wives named Nancy? Also, how can I go about obtaining a copy of the marriage bond? Thanks, -Audrey from Iowa

-------- Original Message -------- Subject: {not a subscriber} Recommendation of Guilford County MAP & Supplement from GCGS Date: Thu, 17 Aug 2000 14:40:23 -0700 From: "Diana Davis" <ddavis@logicsouth.com> To: "NCGuilfo-L" <NCGUILFO-L@rootsweb.com>,"Keim-L@rootsweb.com" <KEIM-L@rootsweb.com>, <COBLE-L@rootsweb.com>,<NC-FRIEDENSCHURCH-L@rootsweb.com> Let me describe what I just ordered (8/10/00) from GCGS and received in the mail today!!!!!! I'm so excited! I have quite a few people from Guilford Co., NC in my data. I had been sent an attachment of a map which I shared, however someone suggested it was available from the GCGS and I sent for it. IT IS BEAUTIFUL! and informative. The order form says it is 'Guilford County Map and Supplement Book by HUGHES (Fred). The map is 23" X 35" and is VERY readable. It is entitled Guilford County, North Carolina Historical Documentation and has much about Guilford County in the Campaign of 1781. Amongst others (BUIS, SHOEMAKER, et all) there is much written about about the McCULLOH family. A 135 soft-cover supplement accompanies the map. It explains the history of Guilford County's land grants as well as other history of the land..."Jacob Schumacher was listed as chain carrier..." The new state's first actions in the late 1700's was to confiscate land of known Tories...At this point apparently the county surveyor, William DENT, the clerk of court, Thomas Henderson, Ralph Correll, land entry clerk and register, among others (SEARCY, HAMILTON,BRUCE, MARTIN, LANIER, PEASLEY, GILLESPIE, etc) acquired much land and property. All were commissioners or family of commissioners. -- Nothing has changed, just names... Anyway, that is just a bit of the history included in this supplement which I am itching to sit down and read completely. Rowan Court Minutes are included in addition to a listing of Guilford Officials from 1771 to 1800. There is also an index of the Landowners from 1750-1790 and their location on the Map. The end of the supplement has an index of persons and subjects found in the book -- 22 pages worth. I recommend this to those of you who live away from Guilford County, NC with roots there. It was $18 with shipping and I sent a check and request to THE GUILFORD COUNTY GENEALOGICAL SOCIETY P.O. Box 49104 GREENSBORO, NC 27419-1104 Two order forms of other things available from the Genealogical Society were also included with my package.

Is anyone researching the Ledbetters who were in Stokes/Forsyth/Guilford Counties in North Carolina in the early 1800's. I believe they were Quakers. I think the person for whom we are searching may be related to the Ephraim Ledbetter family and there is a possibility that Franklin Ledbetter is an ancestor. Any information would be greatly appreciated. Thank you. sarah
