I have Louisa V. E. McLean(McLain) of Gulford Co NC, b 15 Oct 1848, d 10 May 1878, m 29 Nov 1872 to George Washington Barbee. Louisa’s parents were George McLean and Nancy Emma Washburn(1823-1889). Does anyone have any information about this family?
According to information about Fred HUGHES in the back of the supplement, " The Library of Congress has requested copies of all eight of Fred's historical county maps. (The eight counties are Surry, Stokes, Rockingham, Randolph, Montgomery, Yadkin, Guilford and Davie). Guilford College, The Univ. of NC and Duke University are among the many colleges and universities all over the US that have included Fred's maps in their collections. Fred has written or compiled notes for the publishing of ten (10) books..."

I see many of the names of German families of the early Friedens Church listed below. I previously mentioned that I had found a similar record on file in Elizabeth City, NC records posted on the internet. I now believe that the oath must have taken place in Salisbury ( based on this second identical record that contains more detail) I believe that the records of the naturalizations that took place in the Salisbury NC Superier Court must have been collected in the colony records that were later moved to Elizabeth City. My ancester Jacob Boon is shown in the Sept.22, 1763 group. Jacob Martin Boon (Sr.) was married to a Mary Albright. Does anyone know if the "Lodaweek Albright" shown on the March 22, 1763 list could have been the father of Martin's wife Mary Albright? (I do not have her parents names.) Also note the Cobbel, Summers, Clapp, Sharpe family connections in the list. FROM GUILFORD CO., NC DIGITAL BITS AND ENDS LINK - -------------------------------------------------------------------- -------- -- The following people (mostly German speaking) were naturalized in the Superior Court at Salisbury, Rowan Co., NC in the 1760s. Many of these were residents of the western part of Orange County. It seems that Salisbury was more convenient that Hillsborough. There was probably less language barrier, also. There is a typed abstract of the minutes in the Rowan Public Library in Salisbury. This information came from that abstract. The spelling of names is as it was in the abstract. Posted on: Guilford Co. NC Query Forum Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/NC/Guilford/1519 Surname: BLACKBURN, WILSON ------------------------- Audrey - I have a NANCY BLACKBURN in my database (b. about 1795) that may be the NANCY you are looking for. Based on her est dob, the marriage year you mention would be about right for a 2nd marriage. Check her out on the BLACKBURN website. I have her as the daughter of JOHN BLACKBURN whose father and his father were all named JOHN. How did this family end up in Guilford County?...my ggg grandfather, JASPER WILSON and his wife ABIGAIL (BLACKBURN) WILSON emigrated from York Co., Pa to Guilford Co. in 1766...BLACKBURN and WILSON brothers and sisters followed as well. Prior to the move, both families were Irish Quakers...after the move, they were simply Irish Americans...that's a pretty neat story in itself! Anyway, check out the website...and get back to me...sure feels like we have a connection.

Does anyone have access to the apprentice bonds for Guilford Co., NC? I am looking for possible apprentice records for JULIA ANN REED/REID(b.1825), who married my ABNER PACE in Guilford Co. in 1843. Abner Pace was himself a 16 year old orphan apprentice in Guilford in 1837. It has just occurred to me that perhaps JULIA ANN REED/REID was herself an orphan apprentice. She had a younger sister M. C. or M. CATHERINE REID/REED (b.abt. 1830). I cannot find the Reed/Reid parents.
