Contains a number of interesting names from Pitt, Greene, Lenoir, and Wayne. I want to read something into the reason some of these names are on this list. Could they all have been loyal to the Union throughout the war? I wonder if any of these petitioners were former slaveholders. Is there any significance to the area where some of the petitioners lived and the places where skirmishes or battles took place in the region? Very few from Pitt County! Could some of the petitioners have taken advantage of this Act of Congress in order to try to be compensated for property which was confiscated by the Union during the War? I see some names I recognize as likely Quakers, i.e. Cox. Are there others?
