Jean, This William was the first one in our area and is said to be a son of Elijah Darden of Hertford Co. Are there marriage Bonds for this marriage? In Cliff Darden's history, he only says that "sometime after 1790, William apparently took a third wife, possibly a daughter of Robert Witherington". Neither the marriage nor the three children born of this union are in the Bibles. Darden gives their names as Nancy, Susannah and Rebecca. The name of this third wife is not proven. In the estate sale papers - which I have not seen - there is a Francis Darden making purchases and it is thought she was the widow. Darden says the widow died between 1801 and ???. Her two daughters Susannah and Rebecca had their lands divided in 1819 and the daughter Nancy married John H. Dixon. Trish, do you have a copy of the estate sale of William?
