Obituary of Sarah Fields (nee Randolph) - Copied from Mewborn Church Books, Book 1, Pages 82-83. She was the daughter of Jo Randolph and Elizabeth, his wife, whose maiden name was Lane. I do not know the exact time of her birth, but the best information I have been able to get is about the date of 1820. When she was young, she joined the church at Bear Creek where she continued a few years and then took a letter from the said church and joined at Mewborn meeting House where she remained in full fellowship until the time of her death which took place Jan. 1875. A short time before her death she said, I want to go home to be with my blessed Master. I don't want to stay here always. She appeared to be willing to go when even it was the Blessed Lord's will to call her. She was married to Mr. Thomas Fields when very young by whom she had four daughters, one of which died when an infant. Her husband also died and left her. She suffered along with her three daughters and through the blessing of a kind providence raised them to be grown. One of them was married about four years before she died. The other two lived with her at the time of her death. She was afflicted a long time with a very bad cough and got to be very poor and weak. We think her disease was consumption. She left three daughters and three little grandchildren, one son-in-law and a number of friends and the church to mourn their loss, but we hope our loss is her eternal gain. Blessed are the dead that die. The Lord from henceforth, Yea, said the spirit that they may visit from their labors and their works do follow them. Collection of Ima Mewborn
