This makes it difficult to know how and where to look for info. If you are a direct descendant of John Frank Letchworth, let me know what to look for that you have not been able to find. Do you know where he is buried? You have a death date and have you tried to find a death certificate and if so, what county did you look. I live in Pitt and can check in Lenoir and Green easily if you have not already done so. Are you living in either of those counties? I don't mind looking, but do not want to duplicate work you have already done. I looked in the index for the 1900 Greene Co census and did not see the name of John Frank Letchworth. Looking at the info you posted, his mother, Elizabeth Whitley must have m. George W Gainey about 1870, since Margaret Gainey was b.1871 on the 1880 Lenoir census. Have you looked for John Frank Letchworth on the 1870 census?
