    3. Paula, don't read a lot into that deed. James M. Hines was James Madison Hines who moved to Lenoir Co from Wayne. He was a VERY wealthy man and owned a lot of timberland. He was also an official in Lenoir Co - Clerk of Court or something. No one has been able to find any connection to James Madison Hines and the other Hines family - names Daniel, Joel etc of the area. I have seen who the father of James Madison was but did not put it on my database. Two of his sons are on because of their intermarriages with allied families. You might want to check Wayne Co for James M - he is well documented in that county. Wife was Nancy Thompson. Could be the family moved into Wayne from Pitt or Greene. Old William Darden had three wives and a bunch of children and I think some of them ended up in Wayne Co. William was out of Hertford and said to be the son of Elijah Darden but I can't prove it. Nor can I prove the father of Elijah - think we lost him in Nansemond Co, Va - another burned county. The Dardens are one of the too many families who went from Nansemond to Hertford to Greene - 3 burned counties in a row.
