Sounds like a great weekend. >Martha, > >The John Lawson Symposium will be held at ECU from October 18--20 in >celebration of the 300th anniversary of Lawson's trek through South Carolina >and North Carolina. 3. I want to say thanks to all of the hard workers that make these sites so good. Have had several comments on the Old Dobbers site. Many have found my Wiggins and Uzzell information there and written to me. I assume if this gets back to me, I'm ok. Haven't had any problems I know of with other messages, except one with attachments of a photo and GEDCOM.... Rose

    3. Received a heads up early this morning from Ed Morris at the NC archives that his office pc had been infected and not to open any attachment. He had a LONG list of people he sent that to including CSS Neuse. Sure enough one just came through from him - exe file but I didn't get to see all of the subject before the antivirus managed to pick it up and deleted it. It started with Welcome to - don't know the rest. I don't know if this is one that is changing names or not but it is not the badtrans virus it is another one. GIven the email addresses on Ed's message this may be coming from an office associated with history, research, parks etc. Makes no difference - just be careful. Susan did something the other day that I am fixing to do right now. Eliminate almost all of my bookmarks and keep them in a word file. Will help eliminate passing all these problems around. 1. [NCGREENE] A little problem with my short reports
    2. Martha Marble
    3. As Linda just pointed out - my short reports do not show the children split among the proper spouses. It does on the long report with all the proofs. Not sure why not nor exactly what to do about it but will work on it. Her Richard's children, son of Shadrack, are as follows Richard and Dovey 1. Annie Fields ma William Warters and (2) George Clemmons. She was born 1840 died after census taken in 1880. Her name was listed Ann Clements in 1880 Census, but it was really Annie as my mother was named after her. 2. Flora Fields you list b circa 1880 is not shown in the Family Bible and family does not know anything about her. 3. Eveline Fields is also a name we don't know. 4. Alice Fields ma Fenner Drew. Born circa 1845 5. Thomas Fields ma Louisa Hill 6. Cynthia Fields also not in Family Bible and don't know anything about her. 7. Lemuel Fields ma Elizabeth (Betty) Stanton. 8. Hepsie Elizabeth Fields ma Richard Hill. These are all of Richard and Dovey Fields's children. This is list of Richard and Sallie Warters Fields's children: 1 Alexander you list as #9. 2. Sarah Susan Fields listed as #10 3. Richard Fields Jr. listed as #11 4. Minnie Fields listed as #12 5. Ophia Fields listed as #13

I have not seen proof of his being her father but believe it was in Uzzell Lassiter's Bible Record and someone else gave to me also. Rose Parks

    1. [NCGREENE] Early Fields
    2. Martha Marble
    3. I have probably done more on the early Fields family than Ima and Aileen because that family was my assignment from them when I first started this passion. They would not tell me how to go about this, but work Virginia - what a learning process. There is not a shred of even circumstantial evidence that any of the children attributed to Brittle Fields were his other than he APPEARS to have had children based on the Census and the name Brickle or Brittle does appear in the Jeremiah line. Nor is there any evidence that Mary was a Mercer but the names so indicate that may have been the case. Bartholomew with the Pension, was from Dobbs - the known possible fathers are slim. It is what is not known that bothers me. I found Brittle on the 1754 Involvant List of Sussex County, Va. That is the year Sussex was split from Surry. Several of us have assumed that his parents were John and Jane Barker Fields but there is no proof. A Jane does appear in Dobbs Co with land Grants as does a William. There was a Richard and Ann FIelds in Surry/Sussex - Richard died ca 1754. THere are records for their children in the Parish Records and Bartholomew Fields was the godfather for at least one of them. Bartholomew disappears from the Wills and deeds about 1755. THere was a Brittle family with the name Bartholomew all through it in Surry at the right time but I can't find a connection. None of the Barker names show up in any Dobbs Fields line. Last week, I backtracked in both counties as a number of abstracts are available now that were not available 20 years ago. I still can't find anything that sheds light. Need to find out of Haun has done or is working on Vol 3 of the Sussex COurt Records and find out if other Tax List exists for either county that I have not already found. THere is not a hint of where RIchard, Brittle or Bartholomew came from as the only earlier Fields was John. Did Bartholomew move to Dobbs Co and there is just no record of him, maybe because he died early? Who knows. Martha

    3. Ancestry.com bought Roostweb back in 2000 and have somewhat combined sites. It's still the same, I think but they are going by ancestry.com in more and more places. I hope all the county sites remain as they were except for the "ownership". I haven't check on boards or county sites since early last week, but they were same then.??? Rose

    1. [NCGREENE] John/Bennett Fields of Rhode Island
    2. Martha Marble
    3. John Fields moved from Rhode Island to Greene County at some point. I can't determine when he moved because he does not appear on any available records until the 1820 Census. Said to have married Martha Speight of Greene County. I am inclined to think he may have been married and his older children a result of that marriage before he moved. John and all his children, except for Bennett moved to Henry County, Tenn. I have tried to separate the two Fields lines. John had a Will in Tenn but not all of his children were named. JOHN FIELDS WILL 17 Sept 1844 - not sure when probated but after 1850 and before 1856 - wife Martha, daughters Martha and Freelove, Mary Kennedy and her children to live with mother while single, property equally divided at wife's death except for Bennett Fields and Nancy Beeman who have already received theirs. Mentioned was Edmond Beeman. My heirs (no commas between names) Ruby Martha Levison Freelove and Nancy Ann Frances the heirs of Nancy Beamon Executors were John and Seth Fields It is assumed that he also had Seth, Michael, John Jr., Frances who married William Thomas Speight. Those names appear on the Greene County Census and then appear on the Henry Co Census when John Sr. Moved. This will be sent to Guy for posting when he returns. 1. [NCGREENE] Gen Connect Boards

    3. Well, Belinda (B. J.) has just freaked me out on the GenConect boards and have just gotten off the phone with Patty. We are not exactly sure what is going on but Patty is going to try and find out the details. According to emails forwarded by Belinda, the GenConnect boards are now owned by Ancestry.com and they are claiming copyright. As many of you are aware, Ancestry.com has stopped almost all of their free sites. I am entirely at fault for not checking the GenConnect Boards except for the queries in the past two months. Since Patty is no longer the webmaster for the archives she is not getting the automatic posts to the GenConnect Boards. I am suppose to be doing that for Guy and completely forgot. If you have posted ANYTHING other than a query on the Boards and did not send it to Guy for the archives, please let me know. Patty, Belinda, and I assume emails are flying from the legal standpoint but we need to find out exactly what the situation is and is going to be in the future. Belinda, Patty, and Martha

    1. [NCGREENE] Jesse Pope and Elizabeth Disharoon
    2. Martha Marble
    3. Just found this on the Pope GenForum. Knew there was a Jesse Pope for a short time in Greene but knew nothing about him. He was on the 1816 Tax List. Disharoon is not a name one would forget and I have never heard of it. Wonder what his relationship was to old John and Mary Pope who had a son Redding. Martha Old message Jesse Pope born Nov. 5, 1791 in Va. married Elizabeth Disharoon in Green County N.C. They settled in Twiggs County, Ga. in 1816 then moved to Wilcox Co., Ga. in 1846, settling in Pineview. They helped organize Pope's Church, now Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church and are buried there. Jesse served in the War of 1812. The Popes are mentioned in 'The Passing of the Pines' by Mary Lou McDonald. Jesse's children include Winifred, Redmond, Redding, Turner, Reuben, John Miller, David Bynum and Benjamin Franklin. Answer There is a Pope message list at rootsweb. I and several researchers have been trying to sort out the Popes for several years. There is a bible record for a Nathaniel Pope m. Mary O'Neal that we believe to be parents of Jesse Pope who m. Disharoon. We believe Nathaniel's fa. is Jesse Pope who d. 1791 in Southhamptom Va and left his land in Va to son Nathaniel. As you know, Jesse has stated in census and other records that he was b. in Va. The Jesse Pope who d. 1791 is descending from Wm Pope of Isle of Wight/Southhamptom co Va. Janice
