    1. [NCGREENE] FYI Old Dobbers and Update information
    2. Patty Day
    3. Greetings, The following message has been posted on Old Dobbers by Rootsweb. Hopefully they will get it cleared up soon The RootsWeb Freepages server is currently experiencing technical difficulties. Please visit RootsWeb's main page for other sites that are available. Thanks! RootsWeb Staff When you can get on Old Dobbers again, I have updated the Family History site with Al Barrs BARRS FAMILY HISTORY, and added new links to the Military site. Look under updates. Keep posted for more updates. FYI, I spent the past year just keeping my head above water, so it seems. Our oldest ADHD/ODD son needed to be placed in a private residential setting because my patience and ability to handle him were long gone. He is doing well now, thanks to this pro-active approach. His lowest grade was a C and he lettered in Tennis. But he still needs 6 months or more to get a grip on his impulsive tendencies. And yes, I say oldest ADHD/ODD son because the Lord blessed us with two. (Throw in the ADD mom and it is amazing we are doing as well as we are:-) We refinance the home and I substituted to help out. I was also able to pick up a couple computer toys to help enhance the web site. (CDRW, Microsoft Office, and a digital camera) I have decided not to substitute this year. I finally figured out it makes little sense to surround myself with 5th, 6th, and 7th graders who act just like my 17 year old. I am going to concentrate on what I love: my family, Old Dobbers, and genealogy. Here is the problem. I have an iMac and most of you don't. That means our genealogy software programs are not compatible. We can only exchange information in text or gedcom. Many of you are not familiar with how to make a gedcom. I really need a PC with Family Tree Maker software, but that is not going to happen given my new frugal ways and desire to stay sane. Is it possible that someone out there has an older version of FTM that is Mac compatable they would be willing to sell me cheaply. (That is if you are not using it on your machine, I do not want to break the law) I have PAF (which is PC compatible), Reunion (Mac only), and a garage sale copy of Ultimate Family Tree (which is supposed to be PC and Mac.) I am having a little trouble with UFT and my iMac though. I am trying to figure out the best way to read and post your information. Most of what you send in text, doc.or excel has to be reformatted by hand, and depending on the size of the document, can take a while. Although I must thank you, because I am having to learn how to use my Office program as I strive to find more efficient. ways to get your information internet ready. If you can help me out or have any ideas, please email me privately. Also, before sending attachments, let me know they are coming. The worm is still out there and I delete things I do not expect. I received, but did not open, another infected attachment today. Thanks for your support and all the great genealogy work you do. 3. Thanks to all the answers on the fork of Little and Great Contentnea. It is where Pitt, Lenoir and Greene come together - close to Edwards Bridge. In addition to other families, it appears to be the seat of the Dail family. Martha

    3. POA, HYDE COUNTY Transcribed by James Hardison Power of Attorney, Hyde County Court House, Swan Quarter Deed Book M page 443 NOTES by James Hardison - I have a POA that gave Frederick Hardison in Hyde County to represent some of the grandchildren of Jasper III in a misunderstanding with other grandchildren concerning some property. A. J. Roundtree signed it as guardian of William Hardison. We believe he was Jesse Roundtree who lived in Greene County. There is another signature that appears to be Levena Hardison. We believe it is Lucretia. The Frederick Hardison who was assigned the POA was an older person and probably the brother of Jasper III. The Jasper mentioned in the POA who also signed it was the Jasper who died at Beard's Creek about 1861. He had a brother named Frederick. Their father was John, the son of Jasper III. The Robert mentioned was the son of Charles whose father also was Jasper III. The Joshua was Joshua found in Pitt and Greene Counties in connection with our James. Mr. Hardison has an uncanny knack of taking difficult documents and making sense out of them. I agree with him and this offers the best evidence we have that James Hardison was a son of Jasper III. I find the document difficult to figure out what the relationships of all these people were. Of interest, is Abel Dail was a neighbor of some of the Rountree family in Greene County. This POA also indicates that Judah, the usual spelling of Judith in the Hardison family, was probably the wife of Jesse Rountree and was deceased at the time the POA was made. Know all men by these presents that I Jasper Hardison, Elizabeth Ellis, John Hardison, heirs of Joshua Hardison, heirs of Jesse Hardison, Jesse Hardison, James Hardison and Judah Roundtree heirs, have constituted made and appointed & by these presents, do constitute and appoint our Loving Friend Frederick Hardison our true and Lawful Attorney for us - in the name and Stead, and to our use, to ask, demand, Sue for, levy Recover and Receive all such Sums and Sums of money, debts, rents, goods, wears, dues, accounts & other Demands Whatsoever, which are and shall be due, owing, payable and belonging to us, or detained from us, any manner ways or means Whatsoever by our Cousin Robert Hardison Decsd giving and granting and Granting unto our said Attorney by these presents our free & whole power strength and Authority in and about the prems to have use & take all Lawful means and ways in our name for the Recovery thereof & upon the Receipt of any such debts, dues, or Sums of Money aforsd Acquiters or other Sufficient discharges for us and in our names to make Seal and Deliver & Generally All and every other act & acts, Items and Things, devise & devises in the whatsoever, needful & necessary to be done in and about the prems for us and in our name to do Execute & perform, as fully Largely and Amply to all intents and purposes as we our selves might or could do if we were personally present or as if the matter required more special authority than is hereby given and attorneys one or more under our names for the purpose aforsd to make and constitute & again at pleasure Revoke, Ratify, Allowing and holding, for firm and effectual all and whatsoever our said Attorney shall Lawfully do in & about the Prems by Virture hereof. 2. Martha Marble
    3. Thanks for the tip. SARAH - time to run down and see the kids and check this out in the Southern Historical Collection. Tomorrow would not be too soon. I would think if there was a Bible there some of the Rouse researchers would have heard about it, but then, maybe not. THere appears to have been a number of ROuse/Mozingo marriages - probably more than we even have a hint of. THere are a lot of Rouse and Mozingo researchers on the Lenoir and Greene lists and don't think you are on the list so you might want to join us. BTW, how do you know that you descend from Susan daughter of Pierce? That information might help some of the other researchers. There are several Rouse families of various spellings in Va but I have not checked out these particular counties. Thanks for the suggestion. If the Bible indeed exists and is at UNC, it will be copied and posted soon as Sarah or some of the rest of us can get to Chapel Hill because it might break open an entire Rouse line - as well as a Mozingo line. 3. Although these are Duplin and Cumberland Co they have Greene Co ties and descendants in both Greene and Lenoir William Hardison was born either in Hyde or Greene Co - we don't know for sure, but he lived in Greene until he moved with his mother, Lucretia Garris Hardison and his siblings to Duplin. We assume his father, James, may have died in Greene, but again that is not clear. William married Mary (Polly) Dail, daughter of Thomas and his wife, said to be Sarah Tripp - not proven. Thomas moved to Duplin from either Pitt or Greene. THere are a number of intermarriages between the Dails and Hardisons in Duplin. If a couple of you who live close by would also volunteer to do maybe a morning at your convenience, it would be very helpful. Since Glenn lives in LaGrange, he would be the logical person to chair this project and divide up the cemetery. Since this is a pretty large cemetery in town (I assume) it should be kept up well so there should be no problem with slithering critters. Of course, your convenience could be fall when it cools off a bit. Hope to hear from some of you. Martha Martha, I'll volunteer to help survey Fairview. I can go ahead and start but I want to make sure that someone else is not doing it unbeknownst to me and be duplicating. If some others would volunteer and we could divide the cemetery up into sections, each could work on his section at his own leisure. We can co-ordinate our efforts and compile when all are finished. 3. ATTN: Carters. I am looking for the ancestors of Wiley J Carter. He was born in Lincoln Co, TN in 1837 and died in Marshall Co, AL in 1910. Wileys parents were from North Carolina. I don't know his parents names as this is the information I am seeking. Perhaps they sent a letter to their relatives announcing Wileys birth. If his name may be in your ancestor file please let me know. Thank you for your kind assistance.
