    1. [NCGREENE] Harper/Kilpatrick/Spivey/Forkland etc - BINGO
    2. Martha Marble
    3. This appears to be a list of Alexander Harper's children - thanks to Roger. I have had this information for years but it never fit until the records of Elizabeth Harper Johnson were found. One of their siblings, probably William, must have died. Elizabeth Harper who married Elijah Johnston, Robert Harper, William, and Francis are all proven children of Alexander. Only Elizabeth and Robert are proven to be children of Margaret but for the time being we will have to assume Alexander only had one wife and she was Margaret Kilpatrick. My hunch was Margaret Spivey wife of Ephram was also a daughter and the Spivey researchers thought the same thing. Julia had speculated that John and Hugh were children. Tart should be Hart. Forkland I think is Foreman or something like that. Somewhere in some note I have something on them but can't remember where. William did not appear to have any children. He was not on the 1820 Greene Census but probably was on the 1816 Tax list - there were two of them on that list. Julia said John's will mentioned a slave from the estate of William - she is suppose to be sending me a copy of the will. I don't have all of John and Ann Ormond Harper's children on the database. My hunch is William's widow, Sarah, was suing for a widow's dowry. The only children of Alexander who appears to be dead is Margaret Spivey. J. was probably John NC STAR - Sept 24 1819 - from records of Roger - Greene County Aug 1819 - Sarah Harper vs Francis Harper, J. Harper, Hugh Harper, Alex Harper, Blaine Harper, Robert Harper, Caleb Spivey, James Spivey, Alexander Spivey, Jesse Tart and wife Polly, Ephraim Spivey, Elizabeth Spivey, Elijah Johnson and wife Elizabeth, John Forkand and wife Susannah - last two couples from out of state Now there are two more BIG problems to figure out. Who was Francis Sr and what was the relationship between Francis I and Alexander - was Alexander the son or were they brothers. It appears there were TWO Blaney's a few years apart in age. That would indicate that Francis SR and Alexander were brothers. It would also explain the confusion of Elizabeth McLlwean and Elizabeth Edwards. Ruth is working on that for us. Martha

    1. [NCGREENE] [NC-PCFR] Spam
    2. Martha Marble
    3. Brenda, I get those several times a week for Lenoir and Greene so you will get use to them. You would not believe some of the subjects but so far ROOTSWEB has stopped all of them - wish my ISP would. Roots does an excellent job of stopping them but one day something is going to get through and we will all just have to ignore it. ALL OF YOU DO NEED TO KEEP THIS IN MIND. It will also on occasion stop a legitimate post if it does not like the subject line, so you have to read each spam message. Stopped one of my own posts last year and had to change the subject line before resending. It is one of the great advantages of the ROOTSWEB organization. 1. [NCGREENE] Observation on writing style in old Free Press
    2. Martha Marble
    3. Francis has made an interesting observation on writing style that thought some of you would be interested in. He is referring to the article that Pat A. posted from the 1910 issue of the Free Press. Pat said it was not noted who wrote that article on the older people in the county - think Francis might have gotten his information mixed up little. > >I have read enough essays over the years to pick-up on similarities in >style, and I think that whoever wrote this article also wrote that article >on the census on 1790 in the 1910 edition, a few years later. > > >FRH >

    1. [NCGREENE] Industrial Issue and thanks
    2. Martha Marble
    3. The industrial Issue is coming along nicely. Several more sections went out yesterday - that only leaves one to assign. Our thanks to new volunteers - Rosalyn, Rose, Annette and Heather who are all doing sections as their time allows. Christine has culled the Marriage information from some of the sections and Guy has posted it under Marriages - thanks Christine and Guy. Patty is going to be working on the pictures which is another BIG project. The pictures of people are coming out pretty well but some of the others aren't. I will try to refrain from finding any more major projects in the near future - the stress in getting it done has gotten overwhelming.

    1. [NCGREENE] housekeeping problem
    2. Martha Marble
    3. In the past month several people have had problems receiving their posts - actually they have not received them. In three cases, they were on the list and I have no clue to the problem. The other time they had been kicked off - for some unknown reason. Usually in the case of still being on the list and not receiving the posts, the ISP is at fault. I have unsubscribed the person and subscribed them back again and that seemed to solve the problem. If you have a problem, please advise me and we will take it from there. The only problem I have with these lists are the number of bounced messages in my inbox. An ISP bounces everyone who uses them ie erols, or just one address bounces - over and over. Mailbox is full, address can't be found all kinds of reasons. After 8 times, it is suppose to knock you off the list. Usually I can tell when there is a real problem as opposed to something temporary but in the case of full mailboxes, I have been known to take you off myself after 8 times if Rootsweb doesn't. Some people change their address and don't bother to unsub the old address. If you change your address, PLEASE unsub the old one before you sub with the new one. Thanks. Martha

    1. [NCGREENE] Johnson/Harper/Kilpatrick
    2. Martha Marble
    3. Found this in the Elijah Johnson DAR folder Elijah son of Isiah and Mary Johnson - born in Dobbs Co 13 April 1754 d 4 Feb 1836 - md Elizabeth Harper daughter of Alexander and Margaret Harper - b 13 Nov 1757 d 23 Aug 1834. Elijah had a Will in SUmter District, SC written 1 Oct 1836. Dates have to come from a Bible but it was not in the folder. children - Daniel, Isiah Jr., Elijah, Margaret md a Rinder, Harper, Gatsy, Betsy md a Hourhand and Blaney - only one I saw with dates - b 30 Nov 1802 - kind of pushed his mother's childbearing years. THis almost has to be the Alexander Harper mentioned as the brother in law of John Kilpatrick which means that Margaret was probably John's sister and thus the daughter of Alexander and Elizabeth Easley Kilpatrick. And Blaney and Francis were siblings of Elizabeth Harper Johnson. Somewhere in my many jumbled notes on the Harper family I sort of remember a Margaret Harper. Francis, my off the wall theory that the entire line is off a generation and Alexander was the SON of Francis who first moved to NC might not be so off the wall. Either that or I am misreading all of this. Martha

    1. [NCGREENE] Rice Family
    2. Rose Parks
    3. Am looking for information on a Nathaniel Rice born about 1794 in NC who was located in Sumner Co., TN by 1810 or so. He married Ann Uzzell, daughter of Isom/Isham Uzzell and Nancy Blackman. Ann was born about 1796-98, probably in Lenoir Co. as Isom was there on census and had land there as well as Wayne Co.NC There is a Joshua Rice listed with Isham in some Sumner Co. TN deeds etc. Is this Nathaniel's father? Believe also a William Rice was mentioned at some point. Any Rice researchers out there? Several families of this area moved to Sumner Co., TN about 1804. I have a scanner, and I will be glad to help scan or transcribe anything for you. You sound overwhelmed, girl!! These lists have been so helpful to me, that I cant imagine other folks not offering to jump in the fray. Please get back to me at [email protected] as this address is temporary. Rosalyn is going to work with Glenn on the Fairview Cemetery and hated to have to ask her to help with this. Actually Sloan was "volunteered".
