The information I have came to me from someone else and I think it came fromLanie's death certificate which says her mom was Thenia Bradshaw and her dad was Hubbard Edmundson. Laney is listed in Jefferson Bradshaws household in Wayne co. in 1870 as being 19 years old. If Parthenia is her mom, her sibings would be Jefferson(b in 1837) John (1840), Jane(1842), Martha(1843), Sencial(1848) , Elizabeth(1847) and Sara.(1856)

She works at the library in Johnston Co in the genealogy section, I think. She sent me some handwritten notes that said that Delaine Bradshaw Sauls was born in 1851 and died on November 25 1916. Under that she wrote ("informant Jimmy Sauls). OUt to the side she wrore "from death certificate." I am at a stand still with much of the Bradshaw information but I will give you what I have if you think this is the right one. I was raised in Faro as was my daddy. "My Lanie" had a bunch of brothers and sisters. Do you want to know all of what I know? Jan Norwood

Paula, I evidently missed some of the messages about the Dardens but I think you (or someone) asked about William Augustus Darden's 3 wives ? I believe the following is correct: William Augustus Darden, born 12 Feb. 1804, died 23 Jan. 1877, married (1) Catherine (Edwards) Holiday (widow of Col. Titus Holiday), Dau: Julia C. Darden, born 10 Dec. 1827. (2)12 May 1831, Eliza Holiday (dau of Col. William Holliday. Eliza d. 27 Feb. 1832, Dau: Sarah Frances Eliza Darden, born 9 Feb. 1832 (3)26 Feb. 1833, Harriet Speight (dau of William Vines Speight) Ruth Fentress
Roger is making an selected index of the General Assembly Records at the archives and included those counties adj to Pitt such as Greene and Lenoir. Thank you Roger - some goodies for Lenoir and Greene. The index, hopefully Part I, is in this issue of the Pitt Co Family Researchers starting with 1800. Having gone through two years of these records looking for something for Patty, got a good idea of just how valuable these records are especially for burned counties. Of particular interest are the petitions. Each Session has a Petition Folder, but one can't stop at that folder because there are petitions all through the boxes. Found a good one myself under Agricuture Committee. People petitioned for such things as divorce, name changes, Rev War records, county line changes etc. Roger has also included the Militia officers and Resignations of JP's. There is a list of insolvants for both Greene and Lenoir and Roger incudes the list. Membership in PCFR is only $20 a year. P. O. Box 20339, Greenville, NC 27858. Sorry folks, there is a copyright - no lookups. Martha

I don't "officially" do genealogy but occasionally I look at the sites of Greene, Wayne and Lenoir County to see if I find some Bradshaw stuff. I can did out some of my stuff from the past but see if some of these names ring a bell. My dad was H.B. Bradshaw (he grew up in Faro near the Greene County Wayne County line. His daddy was Hub Bradshaw. Hub's daddy was Jefferson Bradshaw who married Susan Mooring (Sookie). I think that Jefferson's mama was a lady named Parthenia who appeared in Wayne County sometime in the 1800's with a passel of children and no husband. She had a daughter named Delaney or Lanie. Also daughters named Sara, Elizabeth, Sension(not sure of that spelling) and some others. If you think this Lanie might be your lanie, I will dig up the stuff that I had. Jan Norwood

Gayle, No, I haven't but the name Blake is found in the Johnston Bryan family and also in Northampton. Two I could find in Johnston moved to Ga. Don't know anything about the Hollands. There were some in Lenoir and Edwin Taylor Jr married a Holland - Edwin's brother, John, married Mary E. Bryant daughter of Blake and Hannah Holland Bryant. Hollands are scarce as hen's teeth in Greene. Martha At 01:24 PM 11/29/01 -0800, you wrote: >Martha, Have you tried Johnston County for the Holland's? Gayle L. >Thank you for this Bryant info. Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/GUB.2ACE/485 Message Board Post: William Bryant lived on Sandy Run right on the Greene/Pitt border. He had a Will in Dobbs Co in 1772 with sons John, William and Benjamin and a daughter Hilliary - wife not named. John's children can be tracked through the two Greene Co Books Bill published. John had Rachel, Willie, Sally who married William Lacy, Martha who married William Turnage and William (I think). Does anyone know anything about the sons William and Benjamin? There was a Sarah Bryant who inherited land he father Solomon Brand owned on Sandy Run Lawrence Bryant in Greene may have been the son of Elizabeth Simpson and Lawrence Bryan/O'Bryan but I am not sure. I know he had a son William R. There was a Robert in the Bullhead road, Big Contentnea with neighbors Lane, Speight, Minshaw - he may also have been called Robin. Robin was guardian to the children of Cullen Edwards in 1839 THere was a Silas on Sellars Branch who may have married daughter of Thomas Person in 1839. Laurence Bryant settled the account of Person. THere was a Joel Bryant on Tyson's Marsh - neighbors Drewry Aldridge and land James G. SHeppard sold to William (which William). One Joel was dec by 1843 - he may have been the grandfather of the children of Jeremiah Fields by Elizabeth Bryan. Robert may have been an heir. Blake Bryan owed the estate money. Blake moved to Lenoir Co by 1840 and was dec by 1844. Does anyone know the relationship of all these Bryan/Bryants prior to 1850? I am especially interested in Joel and Blake - Blake was my direct ancestor. Said to have married Hannah Holland. I can't find a likely father for Hannah in Greene Co. Thanks. Martha

This makes it difficult to know how and where to look for info. If you are a direct descendant of John Frank Letchworth, let me know what to look for that you have not been able to find. Do you know where he is buried? You have a death date and have you tried to find a death certificate and if so, what county did you look. I live in Pitt and can check in Lenoir and Green easily if you have not already done so. Are you living in either of those counties? I don't mind looking, but do not want to duplicate work you have already done. I looked in the index for the 1900 Greene Co census and did not see the name of John Frank Letchworth. Looking at the info you posted, his mother, Elizabeth Whitley must have m. George W Gainey about 1870, since Margaret Gainey was b.1871 on the 1880 Lenoir census. Have you looked for John Frank Letchworth on the 1870 census?

Paula, don't read a lot into that deed. James M. Hines was James Madison Hines who moved to Lenoir Co from Wayne. He was a VERY wealthy man and owned a lot of timberland. He was also an official in Lenoir Co - Clerk of Court or something. No one has been able to find any connection to James Madison Hines and the other Hines family - names Daniel, Joel etc of the area. I have seen who the father of James Madison was but did not put it on my database. Two of his sons are on because of their intermarriages with allied families. You might want to check Wayne Co for James M - he is well documented in that county. Wife was Nancy Thompson. Could be the family moved into Wayne from Pitt or Greene. Old William Darden had three wives and a bunch of children and I think some of them ended up in Wayne Co. William was out of Hertford and said to be the son of Elijah Darden but I can't prove it. Nor can I prove the father of Elijah - think we lost him in Nansemond Co, Va - another burned county. The Dardens are one of the too many families who went from Nansemond to Hertford to Greene - 3 burned counties in a row.
