    3. Jack, It seems likely that William Westbrook, b. 7 Dec. 1778 [Rose posted] might also have been a son of Moses & Percie (Young) Westbrook, and, i f so, he might have been the one who married Winefred (____) Edwards, widow of Thomas Edwards who died 1816. ----abstract of court case I sent you Feb. 8th. The case said Winefred the widow md. William Westbrook of Greene Co., NC, , and they were living in Fayetteville, Cumberland Co.,NC, on 21 & 22 of September 1821. On their way south ?? Winnefred had md Edwards in Jan. 1809 but I haven't any dates for her or for Wm Westbrook. I never tried to learn what happened to them. Ruth Fentress

    3. Martha Jack and List, Martha, my information on the children of Abraham Bussett Simmon's children matches your...... I also have that it was his daughter Winifred who married Charles Westbrook..... I have nothing else on this family tho, and if I have missed it being posted on the list DRATS!!! Jack, you mentioned a bible for the Charles Westbrook family........ would be deeply indebted if you could share what infor, ation it contains on the descendants of Winifred and her husband Charles..... I am trying to put some kind of comprehensive data base together for the Simmons/Simons family. There has been quite a bit of research dome on this family, but most research just follows downone or the other son's lines....... I would be most appreciative of any info you could provide. Apparently she was in fact saying that Abraham Busset Simmons was the father-in-law of CHARLES Westbrook, not Moses (Charles's father) and the father of Winifred Simmons Westbrook. Mrs. Ropp's text reads: "Charles Westbrook and his wife, Winifred Simmons, of Lenoir County, N.C., came to Lowndes County, Miss. (now Clay County), in 1839. He was the son of Moses Westbrook, a Revolutionary soldier. His wife was a daughter of a Revolutionary soldier, Abraham Bassett (or Bussett) Simons of Jones County, N.C." Reading this hurriedly to respond to an email message (and I should know better than to read anything too hurriedly), I made the mistake of associating the possessive pronoun "his" in the last sentence with the last previously mentioned male--Moses Westbrook--instead of associating it with Charles. Mea culpa, mea culpa. Jack Martha Marble wrote: > > I am not that well versed on all the Simmons families so Tracy you or > someone correct me. 3. This is a multi-part message in MIME format. --------------AC0E8B78DF0DECC2CB9D661E Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit It appears to me that the forwarded message below (which I had already sent to the two of you) gives us a pretty good idea as to how the name Percis came into the Westbrook and Exum lines, via Percis Young who married Moses Westbrook in about 1770. If, as seems quite probable, Henry Westbrook (b. 1782), the son of Moses and Percis Westbrook, was indeed the father of Sarah Ann (ca. 1815-1890) and Percis Westbrook, then we would have the connection. The possibility of Henry's being the father of these two women seems all the more probable considering that there was a Henry Westbrook living in the same district of Greene County NC as the widowed Amy Jordan Exum was living in 1816, as per the tax roll of that year. The son of Amy and Jesse Exum--Benjamin H. Exum (1811-1892)--of course, married Sarah Ann Westbrook on Nov. 23, 1836. Furthermore, one might speculate as to how the Titus Carr name entered the Exum line (i.e. with Benjamin and Sarah Ann's son Titus Carr Exum ca. 1842-1905). Here my hunch is that Sarah Ann and Percis's mother was a Carr who married Henry Westbrook. She might very well have been a daughter of Titus Carr, Sr. Ruth Fentress provided me with a list of the children of Titus, Sr.. Among the four daughters listed, Nancy and Sarah have known spouses. She did not have spouses listed for Winifred and Priscilla, either of whom could conceivably have married Henry Westbrook, if our scenario is correct. Priscilla may be the somewhat more likely spouse, in that Benjamin and Sarah Ann Westbrook Exum named one of their daughters Priscilla Florence (1852-1882) whereas they did not use the name Winifred. 3. I am not that well versed on all the Simmons families so Tracy you or someone correct me. From the information I have something is not right with this Moses Westbrook - Percis Simmons line. Am running all of this since sending to the Jones list. I have the following information Abraham Bussett Simmons married 3 times - Rachel Lavender, Lucy Gunter, and Sarah Watson. In his Will, which I don't have, he mentioned his son in law Charles Westbrook. Charles md Winifred Simmons who was born in 1778. The following Bible records Abraham Bussett Simmons and Rachel Bryan were married Feb. 28, 1764. Rachel Bryan daughter of William Lavender and Rachel his wife was born March 20, 1737. Children: Mary Simmons was born Jan. 16, 1765. Dovey Simmons was born March 11, 1766. Laney (Eleanor) Simmons was born April 24, 1767. Lavender Simmons was born Jan. 19, 1769. Betsy Simmons was born July 7, 1770. Regin (Lezin?) Simmons was born April 19, 1772. Bonetta Simmons was born May 16, 1774. Liberty Simmons was born July 4, 1776. 1. Re: [NCGREENE] Westbrooks/Simmons
    2. Jack D. Elliott, Jr.
    3. Martha, It appears that I made a mistake reading Mrs. Ropp's history of the Charles Westbrook family. I am looking for information on Gray Westbrook, brother to Burwell and son of John and Honour Ramsey(John's 2nd wife) Gray married Charlotte Wiggins about 1780??Had 5 children by the 1810 census. 3. Martha, Article 492A William Darden, p. 258-259, of Chronicles of Pitt County, North Carolina, 1982 ‹ These are the sources listed at the end of that article submitted by Nancy Newsom Darden (Mrs. James H., Jr.) "Extensively researched history of William Darden family by P. "Cliff" Darden, III, (gives a Wilson N. C. address and phone number, but that was in 1982); Darden family Bibles (yes, plural); J. H. Darden family research notes, papers, letters, and copies of original early deeds, wills and estate settlements; Darden family cemetery; NC Archives records; Hertford Co., Gates Co., and Pitt Co., records; J. 3. Trish, The Darden Bible does give the exact same birthdate for Sarah but it does not give her maiden name unless I missed it, nor does it give her death date and don't see it in the cemetery records. THe charts I have from Cliff Darden does have her maiden name handwritten in as Westbrook, daughter of Moses with a ? mark. Wonder what the documentation is for her maiden name? Like you said, the exact same birthdates even without a surname, would make one look twice. The names of Abraham and Sarah's children don't include any Westbrook names - they are mostly Darden names.
