After posting some of my surnames I realized I left out a few of my most perplexing and mysterious. Has anybody out there doing research in Granville ever come across the surname CROWEY. I am at a dead end with this name It is not in GENDEX, or GenForum, the FTM world family tree, my G.W. Crowey and one other family in New York. Garner family history relates that a foundling child was "left on the proverbial door step" and taken in by John GARNER and Susannah HALL GARNER and named George Washington "Wash" Crowey, in later years he was known as G.W. Crowey. Now how they new this baby left on the door step was named Crowey is beyond me, unless his mother pinned a note to his little blanket. G.W. "Wash" Crowey was born in Granville County in 1812 and remained with the Garners until adulthood, he was named in John Garner's will as an heir to the estate. G.W. Crowey married Jane Edington in Tennessee or possibly Missouri and they eventually migrated to Napa Co. CA. (1852). TIA ....
