Aloha, My main family from Granville was that of Willis and Cary Stroud in the 1850 Census. Apparently they moved that same year to Warren Co. Ky with their family including Melvina, who married Presley Berry there. They had a child Laura Alice and Melvina died, apparently in childbirth. Laura married my great grand father John Jackson McLemore. Then the 'plot thickens' for lately I have begun to think that the McLemore info I have long searched for leads back to Granville Co.-John Jackson McLemore was the son of James Thomas McLemore, who was the son of Joel McLemore. What I know of him is that he was born "1801 in N.C." lived in Logan Co. Ky and he died in 1866. His mother was Temperance, last name unknown, who died in Logan in 1830 and I believe her husband's name was John McLemore. Sorting out Johns is hard, but I think he came to Tn from N.C.,(possibly because of bounty land) before settling in Kentucky. Son Joel was married in Tn to an Elizabeth Broadaway about 1820. I am trying to find out if the John McLemore born 1762 in Brunswick Va who married Sarah Carne in Granville is my John. Info sent to me about him said he "lived Granville at enlistment, moved to Montgomery Co. N.C. for eight years, Burke co. N.C. for eight years, then to Knox Co. Tn where he applied 18 Aug. 1832. No data for wife". It will be funny if I find out that there was a connection for Strouds and McLemores way back in Granville! Also may have Walkers, Jones, Hammonds from near there-not sure yet. Is one ever sure?! I have no access to reference material here. Wonder if anyone would have 1840 Granville Census and would be so kind as to tell me what Strouds were there? Or if anyone knows who Willis Stroud's father was. Thanks for any help, any correspondence with fellow seekers. First person who finds Temperance to John McLemore marriage-info gets Hawaiian goodies! Mahalo! Bobbi
