    1. [NCGRANVI] An opinion about roll calls
    2. Carla
    3. May I be so bold as to voice an opinion since I am a subscriber? The idea behind roll calls is to share information - which is also the point of this list. I do not find it totally useless for someone to simply post "researching Davis line". If I'm *that* interested, I'll simply write the poster asking more questions about the ins and outs of their Davis line. I may not learn anything, but I just might make a new friend. Besides, my Davis line has been in Granville County since the early 1700s, so just about any time frame would fit my needs. It may be more helpful for some if more information is posted initially, but part of being a good genealogist is in the follow up and the tenacity. Not enough information in a post? Doesn't bother me a bit to dig a little. As for the list admin being the only one who can post a roll call, I'll certainly do my best to adhere to the rules of the group. However...I think it is a silly rule and it is counter productive. Why should the admin be the only one who can do this? Suppose a new subscriber has logged on and is curious about who every one else is researching? Must they wait months or possibly longer for the admin to post a roll call? Suppose a veteran subscriber has recently discovered a new line, and is just itching to connect with other researchers? I enjoy this list and I love Granville County. Let's share! Carla Stancil Townsend Researching surnames of Davis, Allen, Ray, Pearce, and Dillard in Granville County -----Original Message----- From: walterboswell [mailto:hogdu26@knology.net] Sent: Saturday, January 03, 2004 1:53 PM To: NCGRANVI-L@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [NCGRANVI] ROLL CALL "Out of line" is it now, William? Please read the following as posted by a current list administrator. "No Roll Calls. I ask that you as a subscriber do not take it upon yourself to call a Roll Call. If the lists become slow, I will decide when or if to call one. The main reason for this is that the majority of people upon seeing a roll call only post a list of names they are researching and neglect to post the "when" and "where" of who they posted." This, I might add, is exactly what is happening to the current GRANVILLE roll call. Nothing is showing up on this roll call but surnames--no dates, no given names, no marriages, no children--nothing! Pray tell, sir, of what possible value is it to know only that someone else on the list is searching for a HARRIS, a SMITH, or a JONES? Blimey! We're not all lucky enough to have a surname like HIPPENSTEEL to research. Whatever. Happy Hunting. Walt Boswell Montgomery, AL ----- Original Message ----- From: "William R.
