This is my initial GRANVI-L posting and I am also interested in <David> PARRISHes of Granville Co. NC. I don't have hard birth, death, or marriage dates for my David PARRISH but have several details about my David PARRISH. Plus, I have been told the David PARRISH of Granville Co. is my David by some, and others tell me the Granville Co. David PARRISH is not mine. So I am at a loss, and it does not help that the Wisconsin Historical Society is closed for a month to reorganize the stacks meaning I can't really go look for evidence myself at the moment. I am not typically so helpless but sure could use a helping hand. I have located two, and perhaps 3, David PARRISHes one of which almost has to be mine, Humphrey PARRISH Sr who dies 1743. m. Mary unknown had a son David b. 1725. I know nothing further of this David at this time though he seems a trifle old to be my David PARRISH. A Goochland Co. Va family possibly out of Anne Arundel Maryland//St. Peter's Parish, New Kent Co. Va. vicinity Humphrey PARRISH Jr. 1705-1773 m. Mary WALKER have a son David PARRISH b. 1737 m. Judith HOLLAND. This David does have a daughter Sally. A person I know to be on this list denies this is my David & Sally (I do not want to name anybody to avoid unintentionally upsetting them). But s/he stated the David PARRISH married to Judith HOLLAND lived all his life in Goochland Co., and then talked of Granville Co., which confused me so I must have misunderstood something. Plus I located a Lunenburg Co. Deed in Deed Book 9 dated 10 March 1763 referring to a Peter PARRISH & wife Lucy & a David PARRISH & wife Mary. I posted on the Lunenburg Co. list and the PARRISH list and not one soul responded to my inquiry who this David PARRISH was. It may be he is the David b. 1725. I am not sure. I cannot figure out this Peter PARRISH either which doesn't help. Neither of the Humphrey's seems to have a son Peter. What I know of my David PARRISH is the following: 1. 18 March 1779 he witness Joseph GILL stating that John CHILDRESS had paid all debts due. Halifax Co. Deed Book 11. 2. 14 Oct 1777 he witnessed William WADE selling Abraham TALLEY land adjoining John GRIFFIN <Aaron's Creek formerly called Tewahominy Creek>. Halifax Deed Book 11. 3. 7 June 1780 witness Moses FOUNTAINE selling to Joseph McCARTY land on Hico Creek ((my WALLs lived on Hico)) Halifax Deed Book 12. 4. 2 Oct 1777 witnessed Obidiah HOOPER selling to Reuben JONES land on PINSON's Br which is the Hico//Aaron's Creek vicinity. Other witnesses were John GRIFFIN and Richard ARRINGTON. Reuben JONES & Richard ARRINGTON are Uncles to my Sally PARRISH's husband John Jr. GRIFFIN. Halifax Deed Book 14. 5. 11 Aug 1792 John Vaughan of Mecklenburg to David PARRISH of Halifax land on Aaron's Cr. Reuben JONES among the witnesses. Halifax Deed Book 15. 6. 29 Oct 1788 Stephen JONES & Elizabeth TREVILLION <sic> marry. Sur: John GRIFFIN Wit: David PARRISH. Marriage performed by Rev. Henry LESTER 7. 29 Oct 1788 Sally PARRISH daughter of David PARRISH marries John GRIFFIN Jr. Sur: David PARRISH. Marriage performed by Rev. Henry LESTER meaning this was likely a double marriage. Sally PARRISH d/o David PARRISH & unknown <maybe Judith HOLLAND, maybe Mary unknown> b. ??? say 1755-1772 range d. bef. 27 Nov 1809 m. 29 Oct 1788 Halifax Co. Va to John GRIFFIN Jr. s/o John GRIFFIN Sr. & Sarah PARRISH <yes both Johns married PARRISH ladies and I know less about Sarah than I do about David & daughter Sally> Children: Lucy GRIFFIN b. ca 1790 m. Byrd WALL <my g-g-g-grandparents removed to Stokes/Forsyth Co. after marrying in Halifax in 1809> Hampton GRIFFIN b. 27 Mar 1792 m. Jane EZELL <removed to Gibson Co. Tenn> Richard GRIFFIN b. ca 1802 m. Margaret PINSON <removed to Stokes//Forsyth Co. NC > other children probable but not yet located. My David PARRISH died after 11 Aug 1792 the last hard date I have located that connects to him. My WALLs & GRIFFINs lived Halifax Co. just above the Virginia - North Carolina state line abutting Granville Co. So it is very easy to believe they crossed the state line. I cannot locate my David PARRISH's death date in Halifax Co. Virginia. I have seen postings indicating the Granville Co. David PARRISH had a daughter Sally b. ca 1772. A Granvi-L listmember I have been in contact with denies the Granville Co. David PARRISH (m. Judith HOLLAND) is mine. Facing denials from every direction someone has to be wrong about this PARRISH line. The Lickinghole Creek, Goochland Co. Va. PARRISH line David PARRISH m. Judith HOLLAND is part of were connected to BATES & FLEMINGs and WALKERS and the leading candidate for parents of Byrd WALL are John WALL & Ursula BATES of Halifax Co. Va. John WALL's younger brother was Charles Fleming WALL m. Elizabeth BATES. Elizabeth & Ursula BATES are sisters. <<the recently started WALL surname DNA study will hopefully prove the link shortly>> So I am seeing all the right families and am receiving universal denials that my David PARRISH connects to any DAVID PARRISH I can locate anywhere near Halifax Co. Plus no one anywhere includes the Halifax Co. David PARRISH information in any line or tree. I think the truth lies in either Granville Co. NC or Goochland Co. Va. And the Wis His Soc is closed to me for the for seeable future That is why I am appealing for help regarding ANY David PARRISH living between 1725-1825. Granville Co. NC or Halifax - Lunenburg - Goochland Co. Virginia. I am too stubborn to give up this easily :) an extremely frustrated, james wall
Good morning! I'm a direct line descendant of these Parrishes. I have 2 Peter Parrish's in my database. No info on their wife or children. Peter Parrish - s/o Justice Parrish Sr. b. abt 1745 Granville, NC; d. 1808 and 1st wife ??? Peter Parrish - s/o Simon Peter Parrish b. 1798 , d. abt 1850 and Edith Stevenson b. abt 1799 - gs/o Justice Parrish Sr. b. abt 1745 Granville, NC; d. 1808 and 2nd wife, Avysella/Averyella Flewellen b. abt 1750, d. abt 1835 I know that neither of these Peter's fit your timeframe of the Peter you are inquiring about. But thought I would let you know that this family does have the name Peter in it. As far as David Parrish goes, I have a number of them in my database. David Parrish - s/o Humphrey Parrish b. abt 1705, d. abt 1773 and Mary Walker). This David could have been born during your timeframe of 1725, since I do have his brother Joel being b. abt 1737. David Parrish b. abt 1725 - s/o Humphrey Parrish b. abt 1680, d. abt 1743 and Mary ???. From what I have gathered so far, all these Parrishes descend from Parrish's from or near Goochland Co, VA. When I visited the Johnston Co Heritage Center in Smithfield, Johnston Co, NC, there was a book "Path of the Parrishes," by Luther C. Davis, Jr., Silver Springs, MD 1988, that has quite alot of info on all these Parrishes. I'm not saying that this particular author's info is totally correct in his research, but it may have some answers for you. I xeroxed alot or all of it when I was there. I need to find my copy. When I do, I will get in touch with you. I know that thru this book, I found a line of these Parrishes came to Balto Co, MD and ironically enough they (very distantly) connect with my research that I have been doing on my mother's family surname of Wheeler. I really kind of liked the fact of coming full circle with a faint connection between my mother and father's families. No one's research is without mistakes. We should always be open-minded to that fact. My gggrandmother (my mother's side) was a brick wall for me. I read some of the top writer's of books on my Wheeler family and they all either had her surname as Cooper or that she had married a Leonard. I kept at that brick wall and you know what - without a doubt they are incorrect in their information. Her surname was Leonard (variation on spelling) and her mother's surname was Cooper. I only have found 3 pieces of documents to prove this, so far, but it proves that their info was incorrect in this particular situation. So hang in there. Sometimes we have to go with our gut feeling until we find the proof we need to prove ot disprove what we feel. Diane Pollard Keiser
