Am searching for Moore, Owen and Grant families that moved from Southside VA to Granville, Orange, and Caswell Counties, NC, in the last quarter of 18th century. When I search Ancestry for these people in the 1790 census, their index turns up several people with page numbers in these three counties. But when I go looking for the actual census, I am told the 1790 was "lost" for those three counties. Does anyone know the source of Ancestry's information? Was there a substitute for the 1790 census in those counties? Thanks, Marge Stockton
It should show a tax year. This is a substitute 1790 census information. Harvey Researching the following families: Bottoms/Bottom/Longbottom, Keas, Stribling/Stripling, Chambers, Hodges, Golden, Sweeney, Lovelace, Welch, Pettit, Cagle and others. -----Original Message----- From: Marge Stockton [mailto:mlstockton1@charter.net] Sent: Thursday, May 15, 2003 5:31 PM To: NCGRANVI-L@rootsweb.com Subject: [NCGRANVI] 1790 Census - Granville Co Am searching for Moore, Owen and Grant families that moved from Southside VA to Granville, Orange, and Caswell Counties, NC, in the last quarter of 18th century. It's the same at Genealogy.com. But NARA does say there are a lot of counties missing for the 1790 census.
