    1. Abigail Jones, widow of Edward Jones
    2. Here is the name of a book by Zae Hargett Gwynn which MAY {I don't have this book} have the court record you seek. Court minutes of Granville County, North Carolina, 1746-1820 According to the Family History Library Catalog on _www.familysearch.org_ (http://www.familysearch.org) , this book has not been filmed. One of her books is on microfiche. It is called something like Kinfolks of Granville Co., but if I remember correctly, it is some later deeds. Gwynn compiled other books about Granville Co. [colonial era] which may be of interest to you. Look for her name on the FHL catalog, URL given above. There is a book by Thomas McAdory Owen entitled History and Genealogies of Old Granville County, North Carolina, 1746-1800, which treats of some of the social history of old Granville Co., but there is no mention of fornication of the widow Jones and the man in question. You may just have to read the film of the court records. Timothy Rackley of North Carolina in the last few years has published some deeds and wills of Granville co., but I have not seen any information about court records. If you live near an LDS family history center, no doubt you can order film of records of Granville Co. from Salt Lake city to read--when you have the time. Most court records of colonial times are rarely indexed, so one has to lead line by line. A kinsman of mine living in Granville Co. was required to pay the court something for a base-born child he sired. However, he married a woman in Mecklenburg Co., VA, if I remember correctly. Abigail Jones appears three times in the book by McAdory, once in her husband's will, once in a court case involving Philemon Hawkins [not the crime you describe, however] and once as a purchaser at the estate sale of Thomas Perry. Since you are in Texas: The Clayton Library in Houston, or the San Antonio Public Library on Soledad Street may have some of these books. You might try to access their online catalogs. How about the Texas State Library? They used to have an interlibrary loan system. E.W.Wallace California
