    1. [NCGRANVI] My Granville County Families - 1800's

    3. Hi All, Thought I'd update the list of names I am researching for Granville County. Most of mine are African Americans, but I am also looking for one which wasn't. I am looking for any information on the COPELAND family who may have lived in the County. I find ELIZA COPELAND and her daughter NANCY in 1850, listed as Black & Mulatto respectively, in the Fishing Creek District. I believe she is the same ELIZA who was found in Halifax County in 1840 & 1860, but not sure because of the ages. There were other COPELANDS in Granville by 1860 and I would love to find out their family connections. I am looking for EVANS, who were listed as Free People of Color, Black or Mulatto from the late 1700's onward. I am looking for GREEN, who were listed as Black or Mulatto from the mid-1800's. I have the family of ROBERT GREEN, who was a blacksmith from 1870 onward. ROBERT was from Warren County and moved to Granville after his marriage to ELIZABETH EVANS in 1852. Also looking to identify the WILLIAM & CATHERINE GREEN family, from 1850 Granville. I am looking for SNEED, both White & Black or Mulatto. NANCY SNEED was found in 1870 and 1880 Granville with her daughter, EMILY, both Mulatto. They along with NANCY's son, my Great-Grandfather, WALTER SNEED, were former slaves of WILLIAM MORGAN SNEED of that county. NANCY may have been half-Native American, as the family legend goes. I am also looking for any further info about WILLIAM MORGAN SNEED, White, born 1820, died sometime in 1890's, since he supposedly acknowledged WALTER as his son in later years. MAJOR BILL SNEED, as he was known, was married to MARIA LOUISA BETHEL and SALLY BULLOCK, and was part of the SNEED family that most of the other members moved to Kentucky, Tennessee, and Alabama, among other places. I've traced some of his children, but always looking for more info. Deloris Williams Researching families from Warren, Halifax, Wake and Granville Counties.
