Could I please have a look up in the Granville/Person areas for my earliest known ancestors... I'm hoping that any details concerning Patrick O'Brian(t) might help me in this quest. (Variant spellings found for O'Brien) birth, or parents, etc. Patrick O'Brian(t) b. abt 1740 - d. 1804 Granville Co., NC. He had been married more than once. Married 1794 to the "widow" Elizabeth Stroud, (previously married to David Stroud) Earliest records so far found of Patrick in Granville Co., NC... 1769 Tax list, Patrick O'Brian 1772 Land Deed in Goshen Dist., Patrick O'Brian 1790 Census Granville Co., Patrick O'Brian 1880 Census Granville Co., Patrick O'Briant I'm currently following a lead and awaiting documents from Edgecombe Co., NC referencing... if I understand the time line this part of Edgecombe is now a part of Granville Co., NC. Geraldus O'Bryan b. abt 1742 in Limerick, Ireland (I believe County Cork) - d. 1764 Edgecombe Co., NC, buried: "same" married to Elizabeth Toole b. abt 1744 - d. abt 1811 Edgecombe Co., NC., d/o Lawrence Toole, Sr and Sabra Irvine/Irwin The coincidences between these two lineages these two men are so strong I can't somehow not believe they may possible be brothers or otherwise. The same time frame, places they been found, their children, the names... I've spoken to a few of my elders and the same similar folklore has been told to the families down through the years...that 2 brothers (Patrick and Dennis) come to America to escape the hardships of the time in Ireland, so forth and so on. With the help of several researchers and my O'Briant family I've been fortunate to collect volumes of genealogy referencing a great deal of Patrick's children on down. It's Patrick that has been my weakest link. Patrick O'Brian(t) eldest son.. Dennis b. 1760 Granville Co., NC - d. Feb 1817 Person Co., NC Served in the Rev War but I don't know the specifics. 1790 Census Granville Co., Dennis O'Bryan 1800 Census Granville Co., Dennis O'Briant 1810 Census Granville Co., Dennis O'Bryan Married Aug 05, 1806 Granville Co., NC to Rebecca Harris verified in her husband's (Dennis O'Briant) Will and her father's (John Harris, Sr.) Will. She is also specified in Court Records found dated 1819 in the inventory and sale of the estate of her father John Harris, Sr. Geraldus O'Bryan is mentioned in the Will of his wife's father Lawrence/Laurence Toole as executor. He is also mentioned as Dennis Geraldus O'Bryan, Sr in a book written by Mary Polk Branch based on dairy records and other research done within this family lineage. Geraldus's eldest son was also named... Dennis (Edgecombe County, North Carolina Vital Records, 1720-1880) b. abt 1757 Edgecombe Co., NC, married to Frances maiden name unknown at this time. Two children verified, Anne O'Bryan and Dennis Geraldus O'Briant, Jr. After Dennis death in 1789 Edgecombe Co., NC, his widow later married John Murray. I can easily go further with much research referencing these two lineages but that would take pages. I don't know if I'm signed up on the mailing list for (NCPERSON-L) rootsweb, it's not listed in my email book. Should I re-subscribe? My apologizes in advance for my ramblings. Thank you, Catherine
