Diane, I feel for you. I've heard some horror stories on some of these viruses that get started. Luckily, I regularly go to Windows Update for my computer and I update my Norton AntiVirus Program daily and I haven't gotten one of those viruses. It did detect, however, several times Monday Night and Tuesday several "Malicious Scripts" which tried to get into my computer, and it blocked them before they could get in. According to the news yesterday, Microsoft had known about this vulnerability for some time and had put in a "patch" for it a couple of months ago at their Update site, so that must be one of the things I downloaded during one of my Update sessions there. I would suggest that people regularly keep both their Windows and AntiVirus Programs up to date to keep these new viruses from spreading and to protect themselves. I'm just hoping these hackers don't think of some way in the future to thwart even those efforts. Hi Diane and everyone, You and me were in the same boat last night. I was up until 5 am also trying to get rid of it until I saw the fix from norton and understood how it works. I found the patch to close the port which is available from microsoft to close the port. My system started shutting itself down also. Before it shutsdown it would give you a warning message Of unauthorized NT authority caused by Remote procedure Call RPC service terminated unexpectly. Be sure to keep your patches up to date. I updated mine from microsoft after that was I finally able to delete the msblast.exe files that where placed in my system files. They can be found here. http://www.microsoft.com/technet/treeview/default.asp?url=/technet/security/bulletin/MS03-026.asp It's a security problem . I had not downloaded or opened any email attachments. I thought my children were shutting down the computer until I saw the error message. Tina

Good afternoon! I have been on my PC since 5:30am this morning trying to get the above worm stopped from coming into my PC. I'm only sending this note after being assured that I will not be sending it to anyone else. This is brand new and some of you may have already heard about it or have already had it on your PC. It started this weekend. I was one of the unfortunate ones to have gotten it before Norton, evidently, found out about it, being so new. I apologize, but I'm not PC literate, so I can't go into any kind of a technical explanation about what to do to get rid of it or anything like that. I can only stress that if you haven't gotten it, ASAP go onto the internet and find out about this worm, in order to protect yourself from getting it. I talked to a couple of techs and they said that if you have a firewall, chances are 99% that you won't get it. It has something to do with it comes in on an open port and as long as that port is closed it can't come thru. I found the folder that it established in my computer, but it won't allow me to delete it. Saturday, my computer, a couple of times, restarted itself after giving me a 60 second notice. Sunday, it did the same thing. This morning, especially when I would connect to the internet, I would only be in for about 1-2 mins. and it would give me the message and reboot, it just kept doing this and finally I got a Virus Notice. Did a complete PC virus scan and one file came up: W32.blast.worm - asked if I wanted it quarantined - Yes - then asked if I wanted it repaired - Yes, but it said it could be repaired, did I want it deleted? - Yes, then it said it couldn't delete it. Have you ever tried to search on the internet for support and your PC keeps rebooting? I would suggest going into some of these sites for your own protection: www.microsoft.com www.symantec.net Or if you have Internet Explorer, go into that and bring up Microsoft Windows Updates and it has it in there. Hopefully, this note has been in time to keep you all from having this worm. Since closing the port, I haven't had any reoccurrence of the note or rebooting and my virus scan checks out. Does anyone have info on a Hardyman Duke of Granville Co. who was a Rev War Soldier? He died about 1839. Most sources have him in Orange Co. later in life, where many Rev War veterans received land grants. Some of the ancestry.com sources have him as a son of Samuel Duke Sr., others have him as a son of John Duke (Samuel's brother). Forrest King has him as a son of Major Duke, grandson of Joseph Duke, who was another brother of Samuel and John. I'm leaning towards Forrest's version. kevin dukes
Hello list, I have sent this request out before, but it's been a little while, so thought I might try again. Would anyone on the list know who the parents of Joel Rogers were. He married Sarah (Sally) Norred in Bibb Co., AL on September 26, 1822. Joel was born abt. 1798 somewhere in North Carolina. A document that was found pointed toward his being from Wake or Granville Co., NC but no proof as of yet. Joel and Sally had two sons while in Alabama. The oldest son was Marshall P. Rogers born abt. 1825, the other was William Rogers born abt. 1826. The family moved to Weakley Co., TN and was there on the 1830 census. Two sons were born while the family was in TN...James Rogers born abt. 1828 and George Rogers born abt. 1830. The family them moved to Leake Co., Mississippi. They were in Leake Co. from 1835 - 1850 where the who family was listed - including wives of the sons and a daughter Caroline Rogers who had been born abt. 1838. The wives were as follows: Marshall P.'s wife was listed as Sarah (no idea of what the last name was) and they had two children listed - Leonidas! and Laura Brunelle. William's wife was Eliza (possibly Eliza Altman from SC or GA). James' wife was Sophronia Broadway. George's wife was Mary Elizabeth Rawl. Caroline Rogers was listed as being 12 years old (daughter of Joel and Sally Rogers). The only other Rogers listed on the 1820 census for Bibb Co., AL along with Joel Rogers was a Jesse Rogers. I have no idea if they were related or not. I have been told that there were several Rogers in the adjoining Tuscaloosa Co., AL, but have not been able to make a definate connection. If anyone has any information about Joel Rogers or who his parents were, I would greatly appreciate the information. Thank You! Eileen Rogers Mullins nemullins@msn.com

Can someone tell me who MARY ALICE RADCLIFFE "MAYO" is? She was born October 26, 1880 and died April 29, 1966. She is buried in Hermon Methodist Church cemetery on Old Rt. 158 near the line between Vance and Granville Counties. She is buried next to Lucy Maude Wade. I am researching the family of Kate Radcliff Fuller. Mary Alice possibly is her niece, child of brother Robert. If so, she was born in Durham, NC. Thank you for your help. Looking for information on Nancy Adcock and her family. Nancy married William Wooton 16 Jan 1824 in Granville, CO. Thank you. Richard H. Pollock Louisville, KY
Hi All, Thought I'd update the list of names I am researching for Granville County. Most of mine are African Americans, but I am also looking for one which wasn't. I am looking for any information on the COPELAND family who may have lived in the County. I find ELIZA COPELAND and her daughter NANCY in 1850, listed as Black & Mulatto respectively, in the Fishing Creek District. I believe she is the same ELIZA who was found in Halifax County in 1840 & 1860, but not sure because of the ages. There were other COPELANDS in Granville by 1860 and I would love to find out their family connections. I am looking for EVANS, who were listed as Free People of Color, Black or Mulatto from the late 1700's onward. I am looking for GREEN, who were listed as Black or Mulatto from the mid-1800's. I have the family of ROBERT GREEN, who was a blacksmith from 1870 onward. ROBERT was from Warren County and moved to Granville after his marriage to ELIZABETH EVANS in 1852. Also looking to identify the WILLIAM & CATHERINE GREEN family, from 1850 Granville. I am looking for SNEED, both White & Black or Mulatto. NANCY SNEED was found in 1870 and 1880 Granville with her daughter, EMILY, both Mulatto. They along with NANCY's son, my Great-Grandfather, WALTER SNEED, were former slaves of WILLIAM MORGAN SNEED of that county. NANCY may have been half-Native American, as the family legend goes. I am also looking for any further info about WILLIAM MORGAN SNEED, White, born 1820, died sometime in 1890's, since he supposedly acknowledged WALTER as his son in later years. MAJOR BILL SNEED, as he was known, was married to MARIA LOUISA BETHEL and SALLY BULLOCK, and was part of the SNEED family that most of the other members moved to Kentucky, Tennessee, and Alabama, among other places. I've traced some of his children, but always looking for more info. Deloris Williams Researching families from Warren, Halifax, Wake and Granville Counties.
Deloris, I can only echo Deloris' comments. Granville Co. is truly lucky to have Tina! She has contributed greatly to all Granville Co. researchers! Nola
