Dear Researchers, While trolling through the pages of FHL microfilm #0183279 (Madison Co., KY Grantor Deed Index Vols. A-K 1787-1899) I found these entries for one Robert Burton, grantor. Robert Burton, if I remember my genealogical/historical research of Granville Co., NC was married to Agatha Williams, only heir of John Williams, Esq. (the Judge) and his wife Agnes [Bullock] [widow of George Keeling]. John Williams (d. ca 1799 in Granville Co., NC) was one of the proprietors of Boonesborough, and, as such, probably retained some property in Madison Co., which Agatha Burton (and her spouse) inherited. What are your thoughts? (Burton is not my direct line, but a collateral line. I am descended from Judge Williams's brother William Williams, who died testate at Boonesborough ca 25 Dec 1775, and from his only surviving son, Samuel Farrar Williams (b. 1759 Granville Co., NC-d. ca 1838 Henderson Co., KY.) Grantor's name is first; grantee's second; the book & page are third; date made and date recorded and the item being conveyed (al means others) Burton, Robert - Allen Burton - Deed A-64 Mar 22, 1787, Oct 23, 1787 - slave Burton, Robert - David McCord - C-244; Apr 1, 1794, Oct 7, 1794 - 1000 A Otter Creek Burton, Robert - Lucy Searcy - C-671, Mar 31, 1794, Mar 1, 1796 - 500 A Otter Creek Other comments: I suspect David McCord is related to Agnes McCord Harris, second wife of the elder Christopher Harris, and the Harrises came from Albemarle Co., VA to Madison Co., KY, along with a goodly number of progeny. Lucy Searcy is the widow of Bartlett Searcy, and they were previously residents of Granville Co., NC. She and her children remained in Madison Co., KY. She has other deeds recorded in Madison Co., and a number of her children were married there. E.W.Wallace If anyone belongs to a Burton list, please forward this message to it. Genealogists should always be interested in deeds, which frequently give relationships.

Andrew Ingram claims he was born 1758 in Granville, NC in his Rev. War pension application. In my mind it is doubtful that birth records were even recorded in those days. However, can anyone tell me if they know of a book of land records or a tax list that has names of Ingram's on them for Granville about that time? It is noted in the bible that Andrew's fathers name was William Ingram. It said that William was born 1733 in Montgomery Co. NC. but in 1733 Montgomery/Anson county were not created yet - BUT - we can guesstimate that William Ingram would have been 25 years of age when Andrew was born. Looking forward to any response to this query about land/tax records. Dianne Ingram in Oregon __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? The New Yahoo! Hello, Would anyone know anything about Daniel Rogers who was born in Granville Co., NC Aug 15, 1755 I'm trying to find out who his wife and children were and parents if anyone knows. There is an obituary in the Nashville Christian Advocate for him that states: Daniel Rogers born Granville Co., NC Aug 15, 1755 was a Rev War Veteran. Moved to Chester Co SC but moved on to Christian Co KY in 1809 then to Henry Co TN in 1822 and then to Ripley MS in 1846 when he died in the residence of his son Wiley Rogers, March 1, 1849. Any information would be very helpful. Caveat: I neglected to write down the deed book and page numbers, but this is one of the earliest deeds in Madison Co., KY, which in 1787 was still part of Virginia. This power of attoreny is found on LDS film 183283: Bullock to Harris I Len Henley Bullock of Granville County, North Carolina appoint my trust & beloved friend Sherwood Harris who is about to move himself & family to Kentucky settlements my true & lawful attorney for me and in my name & to my use .... from William Bailey Smith [which he owes] for cattel by him taken & sold on the western side of the appalachian 25 Aug 1787 Wit: Sam C. Searcy, Charles Searcy, Joseph Moore Comment: Some Searcy family members are later of Madison Co., KY, especially Bartlett Searcy, who has probates in both Madison Co., KY and in Granville Co., NC. His widow Lucy remained with her children in Madison Co., KY. Submitted by E.W.Wallace
You inquired about Paschal's book on North Carolina Baptists: Try these avenues to gain access to this book: 1. Access the FH Library catalog (Salt Lake City) on www.familysearch.org Do an author search. See if FHL has microfilmed the book--they often do, or they might if the copyright has expired (a touchy subject these days). 2. If the book has NOT been filmed, on that same URL look for a word FORMS. See if there is a downloadable form which lets you request photocopies from the FHL in SLC. They - FHL - will NOT photocopy a whole book. However, they will photocopy an entire index, I am told on VERY GOOD authority. Ask for photocopies of the index. There will be a charge, but it may be cheaper than trying to buy an old book like the one you cite. 3. Get a full bibliographic citation for the desired book (publisher, date, etc), take it your public librarian, and see if they will effect an interlibrary loan. Probably you will have to read the book in the library, as these genealogically oriented books are frequently reference books and do NOT circulate. 4. Also, try to access your STATE Library catalog and all the University catalogs in your state and see if any has this holding (and any other book you are interested in). One of my State Universities had a marvelous local history collection, but my friends tell me they have moved those books to an annex (tsk!). By the way, did you see my post concerning Timothy Rackley's abstracts of Granville Co., NC, including very recently, early tax records of Granville Co. rackleypublishing@triad.rr.com 6. If all else fails, contact the Baptist Association (I don't recall the full name) at Richmond University, Richmond, Virginia. Either use a search engine, or call a local Baptist minister and get a better title for that University. My Baptist minister in that area of Tar River was William Washington. He migrated to Georgia after the American Revolution. E.W.Wallace
In the event that anyone on this list is interested in the parentage of Samuel Henderson, an early settler of colonial Granville Co., NC, I have info to share. Evidence is strong that Samuel's father was Richard Henderson of Hanover Co. VA ca 1740 and later of Goochland Co. where he obtained a patent of land lying on both sides of Great Guinea Creek. Richard's wife was named Henrietta. He had a brother: Edward Henderson. Later, Henrietta deeded this property to three sons and two daughters. Details furnished upon request. E.W.Wallace E.W.Wallace
Does anyone have a listing of the 1771 Granville Militia? I'm looking for any Brinkleys who might be on it. Bill Brinkley
If anyone has tried using the search engine for the Granville Co. GenWeb site recently, you might want to try again. Tina has been so wonderful to add new material and I have been lax about getting the index updated. It is now updated, with all 166 pages totally indexed. Thanks Tina for all the wonderful work! Nola
I wish to add my appreciation for the valuable work these people are contributing. Tom Aiken
