Mary WADE b. 1761 VA Grissell CLEMENTS b. abt. 1725 Mary CLEMENTS b. abt. 1730 VA who m. Edward WADE b. 1727 VA. Peyton CLEMENTS b. abt. 1725 Edward WADE b. 1760 who m. I am confused as to how they connect but maybe you can help me with clearing that up. Thank you. Eldon mailto:ewade@cfl.rr.com Researching: WADE, HAMES

    1. [NCGRANVI] 1800 Chancery Court-type Case in NC??
    2. Fellow Carolina Researchers: I am trying to sort out the estate of Nicholas Robertson, who died late 1793, early 1794 in Granville Co NC. A later court record indicates that there were only five heirs (orphaned grandchildren selling their father's one-fifth share), and I'm coming up with at least 11 possible children, based on court records, deeds, wills, presence at estate sale (which was very small), marriage records, one of these 11 possible children being my 4g grandmother Priscilla Robertson who married Sugar Faulkner 1785. He was at the estate sale.. I believe (hope really) that somewhere (but not Granville Co), one of these heirs sold or willed to the sibling with orphans, Buckner, his shares and hence there were really ten heirs. In any event, since the court records only clearly identify two of the children as sons at the time of death (Claiborn and Buckner), I am hoping that maybe there is a Chancery Court suit-equivalent. I am not familiar with this type of research in North Carolina. Was there a Chancery Court in North Carolina? Would I look to Superior Court records; Equity Court? I note that LDS has filmed the Equity Court docket beginning about 1808, but not be for that. Thanks for any suggestions, My best regards, Janet (Baugh) Hunter

Families with surnames BANNER/BONER, CAVENDER, COMFORT, HARTWELL, HAWKINS, LANGSTON, MULKY/MULKEY, PEARSON/PERSON, PEYTON, PLEASANT, REECE/REECE/REES, SPENCER appear in early records (prior 1850), all of which, from time to time, have been utilized by early BRUMIT (All Spelling Variants) as given names for children. This suggests possible relationships yet to be identified. Seeking any information that might assist in establishing such relationships. Joe Brumit

    3. I am searching for a Charles MERRYMAN who md Betsy (Elizabeth) COOK, about 1814/16. Assuming Betsy died about 1818-1820 in Maury Co TN and records marriage show Charles MERRYMAN is in Maury Co TN in 1820 where he md Nancy HAM. By 1828 he is in the IL counties of Montgomery, Bond, and Fayette. There is abstracts of the Merryman family living in Granville Co NC in the years 1786-1799. Does anyone have any info on a Henry COOK. He is a witness to Charles MERRYMAN's will written in 1786 and proved in 1789, May session. Could this Henry COOK be Betsy's father? This will names wife, Millicent, a son William, a grandson Malachi??, and another son, Benjamin. I believe Millicent's maiden name to be BUTTERS. 1. [NCGRANVI] Scottis-American ALSTONs
    2. Dennis BROWN
    3. In 1759 John ALSTON (1743-1818) left the family home in SCOTLAND and emigrated to Maryland, America. He was the Son of George ALSTON (1716-1782) & Isobel (Isabella) GIBSON (c1720-1780) In AMERICA he was deeply involved in the Tobacco Industry as an exporter, to Scotland, and an Importer of Scottish goods for sale in Maryland. In 1770 he returned to live and work in Glasgow, and was later referred to as 'a Glasgow Tobacco lord'. He married in SCT and had a family there. Can ANYONE add anything to this? Would love to hear from any relatives! A younger brother of John, mentioned above, is George ALSTON (1746-c1830). He emigrated to the Granville area of Nth Carolina in the last 1/4 of the 18th Century. We have been unable to find a definite date for his emigration but he was recorded in the 1790 Census as owning land in the Ragland District of Granville County. George was a Lawyer, and Merchant, and he represented his Alston, & Hamilton, Scottish nephews interests in America, and many of them visited him there, some stayed and settled in America. At the age of 60 George appears to have still been single, and he married the widow of Thomas MUTTER. "Marriages of Granville County, NC. 1753-1868" - Alston, George & Elisabeth Mutter, 22 July 1806. She was born Elizabeth MOORE (c1755-c1839), her first husband was Thomas MUTTER, and they had 4 (recorded) children. Her grandchildren surnames include, Mutter, Littlejohn, Daniel and Atkinson. George was involved in a few transactions in the legal transfers of Slaves, from 1794, and his wife from 1809-1839. He was involved in business with his nephew James HAMILTON, - George Alston & James HAMILTON - Noted Legal papers November 1799 - 1816 Alstons were listed on NC Census Returns for 1830. By the 1840 Census there were no Alstons listed in the NC, Granville Co census. George appears to have died before 1830. The last legal record, that we have found as at Aug-02, of Elizabeth ALSTON was - 'Alston, Elizabeth to John Mutter (her grandson).." a certain Negro boy named Shepard, supposed to be about sixteen years of age.." (Deed of Gift-1839, p.154, book 10) George appears to have died before 1830. Elizabeth would have been about 84 years old in 1839 so she could have died about this period in time, and could very well have been gifting her last Slave to her Grandson If anyone is able to correct, or add to, ANY of the above would they please make contact with me? Any other mentions of these people that have been documented also appreciated. Dennis, in New Zealand

    1. [NCGRANVI] Daniel family
    2. James W. DANIEL, b. 15 Aug. 1818 in NC; died 22 Feb. 1894 in Comanche Co. TX. According to older family members, his parents were Thomas DANIEL and Lizzie DANIEL, supposedly second cousins. There is a marriage listed in Granville Co. for Thomas and Lizzie DANIEL, 10 November 1813. In Worth S. Ray's "The Lost Tribes of North Carolina", it appears that the various DANIEL families of Granville Co. are very difficult to sort out. Is anyone on the list researching the DANIELs and, if so, do you have any information on Thomas and Lizzie? Thank you for anything you can tell me. Sharon Rogers

    2. Bill; I have a Samuel Henderson in my line, although I don't know if this is the one you seek. My Samuel was b. in Hanover Co VA and died in Granville Co NC. I took the following from "A Short though correct sketch of the Henderson Family late of Granville Co. and state of NC" a typewritten family history ( transcript) by Pleasant Henderson son of Samuel Henderson. It isn't dated, and was passed on to me by a cousin, not the best of sources documentation I'm afraid! Samuel Henderson b. 17 Mar.,1700 d. 1784. No children named Joseph were listed for him or his son, Samuel Jr. Nancy Noel "About 1743 or 44, Sam'l removed to Granville Co NC aand settled on Nut Bush Creek. At that time the settlements were so few and sparse that it was impossible to assemble as many children as would induce any teacher to undertake the teacher's business. Hence the only education his children obtained was by private teacher." In a message dated 8/2/02 3:19:43 AM, NCGRANVI-D-request@rootsweb.com writes: << What do you know about the following family? 1. [NCGRANVI] McNeils of Colonial Southside Virginia
    2. Dear McNeal Listers, You invited queries about McNeel/McNeal etc. How about McKneal, as I have seen it written? If anyone has any clues about this particular McNeal family of Southside Virginia, I would appreciate hearing from you. I suspect this Daniel McNeal [variant spellings] is a son of Malcolm McNeal of the same area. On 10 Jan 1748 (Patent Bk 28-493) Malcolm McNeil patented land -- 167 A-- in Lunenburg Co. on Grassy Creek, which creek runs into North Carolina (Granville Co.) also. It was near Munford. Lunenburg Co., VA DB 9-90: 14 Apr 1763 from Daniel McNeel and Sarah, his wife, of Lunenburg to Mary Graves of Hanover Co., for 89 pds., a certain tract of land of 175 acres in Lunenburg on Grassey Cr, and bounded by a mill pond. /s/ Daniel McNeel, Sary (+ her mark) McNeel. Wit - none. Recorded Apr 14, 1763. (Evidently this 175 acres is part of a larger property, 400 acres on Grassy Cr., south side of Roanoke River, which McNeel purchased 14 Nov 1753 from David Walker of Dinwiddie Co. [DB 3-138]. Or perhaps a part of another 200 acres which Daniel Mackneel purchased 26 Oct 1753 from Drury Stith, Henry Morris and Michael Cadet Young of Brunswick Co. [DB 4-86].) (TLC, LUNENBURG COUNTY, VIRGINIA, DB 9 1763-1764 [Miami Beach, FL: TLC Genealogy). Daniel McNeil apparently was the son of Malcolm (also spelled Malcome) McNeil of Lunenburg Co., VA, but there is no proof of the degree of relationship. Mecklenburg Co. DB 1-51 10 Jun 1765 from Mary Graves of Mecklenburg Co., to Malcolm McNeail of same for 8 pds. 4 shillings, one half acre of land together with her right to a water mill that she purchased of Daniel McNeail in M on Bever Pond Cr. /s/ Mary (M her mark) Graves. Wit - Jno Camp, Jacob Royster, Henry W. Williams. Recorded Jun 10, 1765 (2) (3) (TLC, MECKLENBURG COUNTY, VIRGINIA DEEDS 1765-1771, p. 8) The reason we believe Daniel McNeil is the husband of Sarah Williams, daughter of John Williams I, of Hanover Co., VA, is a deed in Mecklenburg Co., VA (DB 1-51) in which Mary Graves (nee Williams, probably a sister of Sarah and the widow of Henry Graves of Hanover Co.) deeded to Malcolm McNeil 1/2 acre with mill (see above). Mary (M) Graves, Henry W. Williams, a witness. If you know more about these two McNeil men, Daniel and Malcolm, or about Sarah McNeil, Daniel's wife, please contact me. Recognize that some of my conjectures are hypotheses only and are NOT proof. All hypotheses need to be tested. E.W.Wallace
