In accordance to the 1850 Bedford County, TN census he was born in NC and his age in 1850 was 64 which places his birth at 1786. His wife in 1850 was Racheal (maiden name unkown) and she was born about 1791 or two in NC. Racheal may possibly not be the mother of Williams son James who was born in TN in 1807. William may also have had three other children of which one was a Martha "Mary" Woods. She married a Greenberry Simpson in Franklin County, TN in 1828. It appears from the 1820 Franklin County, TN census that William was living in Franklin County in the 1820's. His son James married Jane Morris abt 1830 and her parents were Hardy S. Morris (b.1783 NC) and Elizabeth Baker. Jane was born in 1812 in Greene County, TN. James and Jane had these children Hardi Newton Woods,Jane Woods and Mitchel Clay Woods. James remarried in 1842 to Anne Earp (daughter to Allen Earp) and had these children John Harvey Woods,Nanc! y Caroline Woods,Allen Newton Woods,Eliza Simpson Woods,Josiah Woods and Albert Monroe Woods (all children born between 1832 and 1853). James and Jane lived in the McMinn County area in the 1830's. Mitchel Woods married Narcissa Ater in AR and had several children to which one was my g grandfather John Woods. John married Louisa Jane Ray (father was William Ray) in TX. If anyone thinks there is a connection or may know of William Wood or Woods parents or where he was born in NC please contact me. Some strong tid bits of information I have seen suggest there could be a tie to either James Wood of Buncombe County, NC or Joseph Woods of Orange County, NC.
