However, I have no proof. He could be from either North Carolina or South Carolina. The regiment was formed in New Bern North Carolina which is in the southeastern part of the state. Oral family history says he sided with the Union while the rest of his family sided with the Confederacy, and hence, he was rejected by his family and never again communicated with them. His wife was born in Tennessee. Several of his wife's siblings were married in western Rockcastle County Kentucky. Therefore, I have a strong hunch he met and married his wife in Rockcastle County Kentucky sometime in the early 1870's. The first of his children was born on 6/14/1873. I suspect all of his children were born in Kentucky, probably Rockcastle County, and I suspect he was married in Rockcastle County. He is listed in the 1890 Pulaski County Kentucky census. He and his fa! mily lived in eastern Pulaski County Kentucky at the intersections of Rockcastle County and Laurel County. Any information you have on your Zachary would be greatly appreciated. I will be very happy to find out where my Zachary comes from.
