    3. Hi all, Back in February we started a project on GAGenWeb (Georgia) for family group sheets. I maintain this web site. Not too long ago we went over 1000 group sheets online. I had decided beforehand to do something "special" for our 1000th. That would involve the "winner" doing a write up, & then I would send this out to all counties, & states the family was linked to, & make a featured link on our home page: http://www.rootsweb.com/~garichmo/groupindx.html Here's Pat's family write up that she just happens not to know that much about & would love some help with! Bettie <>< ----------------------------------- Pat WINDSCHITL <WindPat@aol.com> Isaac ROOKS was born about 1778, place unknown. He married Abigail Kemp MERCER, the widow of Malachi MERCER, and the daughter of Solomon and Margaret Kemp. Abigail was born about 1772 in Bladen County, North Carolina. It is unknown if any children were born to this union. In the 1821 land lottery of Georgia, Screven County, Isaac ROOKS was granted 202.5 acres in Monroe County, Mills Militia District, Land Lot 226, Section 6. There was a grant fee of $19.00. On the 9th of September of 1823 Isaac ROOKS purchased crockery ware, two cows and calves, one pot and an oven lid, from the estate of Lucy THOMAS, deceased, for the price of $24.62. He purchased wedges, hoes and a plow, from the estate of Benjamin FREEMAN, for $1.50. In Screven County, Georgia, on Jun 6, 1837, Isaac ROOKS became the guardian of Barwell, Moses J. and William LARISEY. On December 03, 1843, an Isaac ROOKS married Sarah W. FISHER, in Screven County, Georgia. She was born about 1825. They had three children: Susan ROOKS was born about 1847 and married Zachariah PATTERSON in Bullock County, Georgia on 07 August 1861. Isaac DeKalb ROOKS was born 20 Apr 1849 in Screven County, Georgia. He married Hannah Mary LENAHAN on 06 December 1874 in Augusta, Georgia. Mildred M. ROOKS married Charles A. SLEDGE Jr. Living in an Isaac ROOKS household, in the 1820 federal census of Screven County, Georgia, were one male 26-45, one female 26-45 and one slave. In the federal census of 1830, Screven County, Georgia, there was one male 15-20, one male 40-50, one female 10-15, one female 50-60, and three slaves in the household. Was this the same Isaac ROOKS family as the one in 1820? The Screven County, Georgia, federal census of 1840, 34th District, shows one male 10-15, one male 15-20, one male 60-70 and one female 50-60. Again the statistics don't tell us if this was the same Isaac ROOKS family in all three census years. My Isaac ROOKS, and his family, were finally listed in the 1850 federal census of Screven County, Georgia, by name, with Isaac, age 73, farmer, and place of birth listed as Georgia. Also shown were: Sarah, age 25, Susan, age 3 and Isaac D., three months, all born in Georgia. In the Slave Schedule of 1850 Screven County, Georgia, an Isaac ROOKS was listed in the 74th District and he had one slave. In 1853, when Isaac ROOKS would have been about 75 years old, he filed a Deed of Trust with Robert SHARPE of Screven County, who was trustee for Susan, Isaac and Mildred, children of Isaac ROOKS. In the federal census of 1860, Screven County, Georgia, Isaac ROOKS, age 90, was enumerated living in the household of John TAYLOR, farmer, age 76. Isaac was listed as a pauper, born in South Carolina. Sarah and her children were not enumerated on this page and we have been unable to locate them in Georgia in 1860. At some point she married John WALSH and she died in Milledgeville, Georgia, on the 29th of September 1916. Isaac ROOKS' date and place of death are unknown. Was there only one Isaac ROOKS who married both Abigail Kemp MERCER and Sarah W. FISHER? Or were there two men, possibly father and son, one who married Abigail Kemp MERCER and the other who was the husband of Sarah W. FISHER? The mystery lingers on.
