His name was William J. Hendricks. He shows born in AR, but I have not found anything to prove this to date in AR. Here is that census: W. J. HENDRICKS Household Male -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Other Information: Birth Year <1835> Birthplace AR Age 45 Occupation Farmer Marital Status M <Married> Race W <White> Head of Household W. J. HENDRICKS Relation Self Father's Birthplace NC Mother's Birthplace NC -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Source Information: Census Place E.D. 9, Bosque, Texas Family History Library Film 1255291 NA Film Number T9-1291 Page Number 359C I am hoping that maybe someone may be familiar with a Hendricks family that was supposedly Dutch and possibly some Indian sprinkled in there too from NC. All I have to go on is NC at this time for a couple with a son named William. There is a chance however, that he MAY have had a brother named Walter. Just not sure. I have a death certificate on a Bessie Allison who married Walter Hendricks and can not find out who the heck they were either! I am hoping SOMETHING will give me some direction on how to continue this search, as without a county to look at, I am clueless! Sabrina in SC

However, I don't remember the mention of a spinal problem. This is interesting in that Muscular Scoliosis, Muscular Dystrophy (Friedreich's Ataxia), and Lou Gherig's or ALS all run in the family and all of the ones I know that have been affected have direct relations to the Cloer side of our family. Two having Muscular Scoliosis are still living. We have at least two relatives who have died of ALS or Lou Gherig's; one being a first cousin of mine. And of course FA is in our immediate family and is hereditary if both parents have the recessive gene. You can be carriers for years without knowing it before marrying someone else who has it, and have 50/50 chance of your child getting it. So it may skip generations before reoccurring. This is well worth remembering since many of these are hereditary. At least all of the ones I've mentioned above are. Do you know what particular "spinal problem" he had?

If we are talking about the same Jordan, he was born in NC in 1803 and married Elizabeth Shaw and my family then came from their son, Spencer. I can't find my documentation, but have it noted that Jordan's parents are Burrell (b.1777) and Rebecca (b.1778) and there was a brother named Cordy or Cardy (b.1807). Seems like I found it by going county by county through an old census in NC.

Surnames: Jones, Smith, Dewitt Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/1UB.2ACE/8880 Message Board Post: I am looking for the parents of John Jones born abt 1807 & Obediance Smith abt 1809 born in NC, my GGG Grandparents. The children of John and Obediance Jones were: Willis, Mumford, Ellen, James, Julia, John H, William, Harrison, Elizabeth Jane, Lewis M, Josephine, & Charles L.; Willis was born in NC 1827. I am in contact with ancestors of the following; Willis, Ellen, Julia, John H, and Josephine. But nothing on: James b abt 1833 NC or William b abt 1839 IL My Jones family only can be traced [so far] back to N Carolina 1827. The original John Jones (or his father) is believed to have been an Irish orphan who was taken in by a well to do farmer by name of John Jones in the Philadelphia area, [MD, PA or maybe VA]. This is family rumor not hard history. However John H Jones put down that his father was born in MD. He was given the name John Jones by his benefactor, John Jones. How John Jones got to NC I don,t know. John Jones' first child! was born in 1827 near Denton (city or county?), NC. They left NC for Illinois in late 1835. On the way my GGgrandfather was born in Virginia on 29 Feb 1836. My GGgrandfather was John H Jones married Mary M DeWitt in IL. The rest is history so to speak. Any help would be great, please forward this info to any mailing list or message board. Thank you very much! Sincerely, Sam Reply to: Samjones1119@aol.com
