Censuses taken around this time may provide the first record of an immigrant's residence in America. The 1900 census, in particular, was the first to employ the practice of noting how long an immigrant has been in the United States and whether that person was naturalized. FREE lookup, go to: http://www.freegenealogylookups.com/cd322.htm Click =========================================================== ==> "Census Index: DE, DC, MD, PA, OH, VA, and WV, 1900" =========================================================== This database lists more than 4.6 million individuals who were enumerated in the 1900 U.S. Census in Delaware, District of Columbia, Maryland, Pennsylvania, Ohio, Virginia, and West Virginia. Since the 1600s, more immigrants have arrived in and traveled through the Mid-Atlantic region than any other region in the United States. Many families who were traveling westward stopped in Mid-Atlantic states just long enough to be recorded in local records. Although a lack of centralized record keeping can make genealogical research in these states more difficult than in other areas, this database offers a convenient index to the collective Mid-Atlantic Federal Census schedules.
