    2. connie mead
    3. >From "My Trees Newsletter": Ask Us - What do you mean Junior and Senior doesn't mean a father and son relationship and a Cousin wasn't a relative at all? During the 1700s the terms Junior and Senior were often conveniences used by colonial families who lived in rural communities. These terms were used merely to distinguish between two person who lived in the same locality, had the same name, and were of different generations. Sometimes the men were related sometimes not. It was quite common in the Southern United States. These designations were usually not permanent either. 1. [NCGen] Nicholas FRY & Susannah Unknown
    2. Dorothy
    3. I am seeking information of the Nicholas Fry who is listed on the Carter County, TN census (1830) with a wife Susannah. Their son, Elias, was killed in the Civil War at the Limestone Cove Massacre. Elias was married to Mary "Polly" Street of Bakersville/Buladean, Yancey/Mitchell County, North Carolina. Elias Fry and Mary "Polly" Street Fry had son Lemuel Fry(e). This Fry family had alliances with the Campbells of Carter County (Unicoi) who also moved across Roan Mountain from Tennessee to North Carolina . The Fry and Campbell ancestors were probably in the area when the state line was shifting back and forth from Tennessee to North Carolina. Dorothy --- Outgoing mail is certified Virus Free. 1. [NCGen] Nicholas FRY & Anna Maria BOHRER married abt 1780
    2. Deborah Jaquiss
    3. The Bohrer, Borah, Borer Book states that Nicholas FRY & Anna Maria BOHRER (born abt 1761- parents: Abraham & Anna Marie nee unknown ) married abt 1780 and went to live in the Carolinas. Nothing further is known about them. Did they have children? Abraham & Anna Marie Bohrer's (of Frederick Co, VA & Frederick Co, MD) children: John Peter Bohrer 1743 of Frederick Co, MD John Heinrich (Henry) Bohrer 1755 Frederick Co, MD John Adam Bohrer 1758 of Berkeley Co, VA ?Eva Margaret? Bohrer 1758? John George Bohrer 1759 of the part of Frederick Co, MD that became Washington Co, MD Anna Maria Bohrer 1761 A lot is known about John Peter Bohrer and John Adam Bohrer and we believe that John Heinrich (Henry) Bohrer died young without issue. Eva Margaret Bohrer is not well documented and we are not sure she was their daughter. John George married Rosanna unknown and they had at least six and probably eight children and at least thirty grandchildren but no descendants are at present known. Anna Maria Bohrer & her husband Nicholas purportedly went to the Carolinas but what then? Does SKS have any information about any of these Bohrer's or other suggestions of where to research? John Peter Bohrer was Anna Maria Bohrer's brother. John Peter Bohrer is a documented DAR Revolutionary War Patriot. John Peter Bohrer married 31 Jan 1768 Maria Magdelena (Mary) Schenkmayer in the Evangelical Reformed Church Frederick, Co, MD. So possibly Anna Maria was married there as well? 3. Dear Nancy, I am clueless. A search for "Samuel Stewart married Lydia Hampton genealogy" on Google.com gives me this: http://byrdservices.virtualave.net/broughton/broughton.htm which shows this in addition to a lot more: " a.. 304 i. Samuel Stewart, Sr., born 1674; married Lydia Hampton. 612. Thomas Harrison, born 1633 in St. Peter's, Chester, England; died 1682 in Dublin, Ireland. He was the son of 1224. Richard Harrison. She was the daughter of 1226. Edward Bradshaw and 1227. Susannah Blease. Child of Thomas Harrison and Catherine Bradshaw is:" A search on worldconnect.rootsweb.com for "Lydia Hampton" adding husband "Stewart" shows 10 family trees all of which look like the same two individuals - yours! A search for "Samuel Stewart" with spouse "Hampton" also shows ten family trees, probably the same ones. These are good starts but remember to document all sources. Try census, wills, church, christening, cemetery, marriage records to name but a few. Never take someone else's information without checking it. Have you tried this as sent to me by Mary Kyritsis Kifissia, Greece "First, the Stewart Clan Magazine was a series of monthly newsletters that came out between 1922 and 1970, when the editor died almost literally with his boots on. They are preserved in book form in many libraries however and also on microfilm in the LDS. Go to my website at http://users.hol.gr/~mkyritsi and at the top of the page there is a link showing where you can find them. Further down are the indexes and you can look up your people there. The best way to start is with a wife or husband, as unfortunately the Stewarts were very fond of naming their children with the same names over and over. Not to discourage you! -- but keep your eye on what you really know and go back from there. And do join Rootsweb's mailing list for Stewart. {And I would add to Mary's advice here and say join the surnames list for the surnames of individuals that married Stewarts.} There are a lot of people on it and plenty who are ready and willing to help. Pennsylvania is a good state to start with." It was Nancy Sloan McDonald's brother, John Craton McDonald, who gave the information for the article. It is said that he obtained his information from the family bible. I have no idea if a family bible existed but I have never seen one. Here is a quote from the book - BIOGRAPHICAL AND GENEALOGICAL HISTORY OF APPANOOSE AND MONROE COUNTIES, IOWA. by S. Thompson Lewis of 1903 P. 418-423: JOHN CRATON McDONALD "Mary Stewart, who was born September 15, 1816, in county Londonderry, Ireland, and was a daughter of Craton (Creighton) and Nancy (Sloan) Stewart. Her father was a son of Sir John Stewart, whose father was a son of Walter Stewart and a cousin of King Charles the Second, and removed from England to county Antrim, Ireland, in 1648. In the year 1816 Craton Stewart emigrated to the United States and settled in Allegheny county, Pennsylvania. There he spent his remaining days and it was in that county that the parents of our subject married on the 25th of November, 1841. They took up their abode in Mercer county, Pennsylvania, and there lived until April, 1852, during which time six children were born to them. With their family they then moved westward, locating in Lee county, Iowa, and in March, 1854, came to Appanoose county, Iowa, settling in Cincinnati, IA where they resided until called to their final rest. TIA ~ Deborah in the Maryland suburbs of Washington, DC, USA ----- Original Message ----- From: Fugitivebabe@aol.com To: djaquiss@pressroom.com Sent: Thursday, August 15, 2002 7:21 PM Subject: Stewart and Hampton Dear Deborah, I wonder if you have any information on Samuel STEWART who married Lydia HAMPTON in about 1720. There is a lot of confusion and guesswork in the work that I've found on these two, and I am looking for someone with some real knowledge. They may have been born in Scotland, perhaps New Jersey, or Virginia. It is definite that they both died in Yadkin County, North Carolina, and had six sons.. I am not certain about their birth dates but approximately 1674 and 1678. I am also not certain about their parents' names. It is a possibility that earlier members of their family lived in Pennsylvania. I am not giving you much but know you would recognize them by this if you should know of them. Any suggestions you can give me would be truly welcome. Thanks so very much for anything you can do. Sincerely, Nancy Chamberlain
