Thanks to Betty Chandler, I am now moving into researching this county. I've noticed lots of folks came to Bute/Franklin Co. NC from Surry/Southampton Co. VA. Also, Betty's work indicates that Richard Murphy I may have come to this county in late 1600s. I've ordered lots of books & microfilm. I just hope Southampton wasn't one of the "burned" counties during the 2 wars. Let's rock! -- Mark A. Murphy
