    1. [NCFRANKL] John Jones - white Franklin County father of free black woman
    2. Dear fellow researchers, I am in a quandary. My g-g-grandmother Narcissa Pettiford was born in Franklin County on 20 Sept 1829. Her death certificate indicates "John Jones - white man reported father". Jones is a fairly common name in North Carolina (as well as everywhere else in the universe) and having an ancestor whose first name is 'John' doesn't narrow down my search as much as I'd like. Hopefully, among the Jones family researchers, there is someone who can narrow down the possibilities. Here is a little background. Narcissa's mother Glatha Pettiford was born "free" in Franklin County about 1805. Glatha's mother and her siblings were apprenticed in Cumberland County, NC to Duncan McNeill in 1790. It appears that several of McNeill's charges moved (perhaps with Duncan) to Franklin County about 1800. I'm wondering whether there exists an association between the Franklin County Jones family and Duncan McNeill. John Jones might've fathered several of Glatha's siblings. If any Jones researcher is interested, I would be more than happy to supply a photograph of John's daughter Narcissa. Robert Jackson
