    1. EARLY FRANKLIN COUNTY MARRIAGES
    2. My Hancock ancestors settled on land along the Tar River in the area of King's Creek, Buffalo Creek, and Anderson's Creek, in that portion of Granville County that became Bute in 1764 and Franklin in 1778. John Hancock was deeded 100 acres on the S side of Hawtree Creek 25 Mar 1749. On 8 Oct 1764 Samuel Hancock bought from Thomas Smith 575 acres in Bute County. On 8 Feb 1768 Samuel Hancock, Jr., bought an additional 58 acres in Bute County from Thomas Smith. On 10 May 1774 Bute County granted to Samuel Hancock, Jr., the administration of the estate of Samuel Hancock, Sr., deceased. Other neighbors along the Tar River were Thomas Tharrington, Thomas Person, Benjamin Person, Thomas Turner, James Brantley, Thomas Bird, Benjamin Bird. Samuel Hancock, Jr., and Mildred Dawson were married 1758 in Virginia. They had at least 8 children that grew up in Bute and Franklin and married in Franklin between 1780 and 1800. I am looking for marriage records for Martin Hancock who married Elizabeth (?) abt. 1780; William who m. (?); Simon who m. (?); and Dawson who m. Sarah "Sallie" Harris abt. 1800. This one may have been in Montgomery County. I am also interested in Wesley Hancock who was born 1788 in Franklin and m. abt. 1816 to (?). All of these folks, along with numerous other families, ended up in Wilson, TN. I would appreciate any suggestions that might help me find these marriage records. Thank you. Arvil Hancock in CA
