It was a small newspaper and I think that it was a weekly. I grew up in Wake county and my mother and father were receiving it after I left home. I don't know if it is still in circulation. Since it was a much smaller news paper than the News and Observer or the Raleigh Times and it was focused more on farmers of the area than were the other papers, it was widely read by the farming community. I do remember that you could sometimes find a very informative biographical article or obituary in it that did not appear in the larger papers that charged for that service. If you don't locate the paper, let me know and I'll see if my 94 year old mother still has a copy anywhere that might have some directions on it. The following is a site to get to some newspapers which have online editions and some of them have archives. Most archives are free but there are some that do charge. There are also some papers with online editions that might not be listed. I'll list it but I could not make contact with it this morning. I usually check out the link before posting it here, but... <http://www.webwombat.com.au/intercom/newsprs/index.htm> Later, ROB Robert G. I was not aware of this feature and will most definitely have to check into it. I can certainly see where it would be very helpful and efficient! I have AOL so I don't know if I can utilize the "automatic sorting" or not -- I have been finding that while AOL has some neat features, they ALSO do not have a lot of things (neat little features) that other programs have. If I stumble upon any AOL "automatic mail-sorting" features and learn how to use them, I will share with the list! Smiles to all and happy ancestor-hunting! ... Carolyn
Yes, you can do the same thing that Renee suggests in Outlook Express. I choose the other approach (sorting to folders and deleting from there) because of the huge volume of mail (of all types) that I receive every day. You can go into the "view" menu. Customize the view and then sort everything by the "to" header. Since all list mail is sent to a distribution list that is read by the mail program as TO NCFrankL or TO NCDurhamL, that means everything is still in my In Box but all neatly sorted by the Rootsweb list. My personal mail comes in under my own name, so I can easily find mail that does not pertain to genealogy. The advantage for me to do it this way is that I can then move only the letters I want to keep to the individual folders. Linda's suggestion is an excellent one, though, and I'm not sure if my method will work with Outlook Express. I'm running the full version of Outlook. By the way, if anyone is thinking of getting either of these -- Outlook Express or Outlook (98 or 2000), I'll put in my vote for them. They are excellent and very powerful programs. The task manager alone is a great tool for tracking research! (nope, I don't have any Microsoft stock -- sure wish I did though.):)

If it helps anyone with GroupWise, which is what I use, I sort mail also - - go to Tools / Rules. To set up a new one click on New. You then specify: events (new item received), type (mail), condition (such as from NCFRANKL-L; can have multiple conditions), and action (move to a folder or subfolder - click on a folder or subfolder to indicate which one). You need to have established the folder or subfolder before you set the rule. Patti et al. -- So that you know where things come from, most e-mail programs have a feature where you can set up incoming mail boxes to sort your mail. You can put your mail boxes under different folders just like you store things on the computer. I have a different mailbox for each of the different mailing lists I belong to, and have them as sub-folders, for example of "Genealogy > North Carolina > NC-Franklin." All the mail from this list goes to that sub-folder. I have Outlook Express, and in that program you set these up by going to "Tools," "Inbox Assistant," "Add." You then set some criterion for the mail [such as To: NCFRANKL-L@rootsweb.com] and tell the program what to do with it [i.e., Move to folder: NC-Franklin.] You can also use this tool to delete spam -- if you know who it comes from, for example, or by looking for some word in the subject line like "deviant" (Yuck!). Then your mail just sorts itself. I get hundreds of e-mails a day, both personal and professional, and they sort themselves out. Then I can dash through a sub-folder and enjoy the mail there (like my genealogy sub-folders), and totally ignore another one until I have time to cope with it (like my "computer-misc." sub-folder). Incidentally, I have never used AOL, and they are weird on a lot of their features, so I don't know about them..... However, I would think they would have some sorting feature -- it's pretty necessary for any good e-mail program. Good luck to all! I would be interested in knowing this information as well. Would guess that the Olivia Rainey Library in NC might have copies but need film numbers and years. Pam Caryn J wrote: > Where did you get the microfilm on the Franklin Time? > What years are on microfilm? > Thanks > Caryn

Where did you get the microfilm on the Franklin Time? What years are on microfilm? Thanks Caryn
Hi Pam, It is said that my 4th gggggrandfather was b. in Franklin Co., NC. The only proof is alisting in this Estate record of Edgecomb Co. that he was even from NC. Family says Franklin. Below is the record. (First and only record we have found in NC of a Matthew GAY) Estate Records of Edgecombe Co., NC. 1730-1820, The will of Mary Gay, inventoried 30 March 1795, May Court 1795, shows that additional inventory was taken by Hezekiah Langley, Admr. August Court 1795. A ccount of the sale by the admr., June 16, 1795. Benjamin Gay, Richard Gay, Henry Gay and Matthew Gay were buyers, August Court 1795. Account current with theadmr., May 1795. Division of money arrising from the estate equally among the legal representatives, namely, James Gay, Simon Gay, Sarah Langley and Elizabeth Langley, August 1796. (stated below is his death date: 8/27/1843 and it states he was 60 at death. If so he would have been b. 1783. How could he have been a buyer in at estate at the age of 12 years old above in 1795??? I feel he is related to these GAYS mentioned here, but have never found any proof. Family states he came to GA with Zorababel Gay in early 1800 and that Zoro was his father. I need his parents and any siblings... Died in State Prison, Milledgeville, GA Recorded in "Georgia Black Book" #825 Matthew Gay; Voluntary manslaughter; 3yrs; 10/30/1840-10/30/43; Emanuel Co.; Farmer; NC; 1; 60 yrs; 6' 1 3/4"; Fair; Grey; Blue; D. 8/27/1843. The story of Matthew's incarceration has been passed down in the family. According to John Harry Gay, Jr., Matthew's greatgreatgreatgrandson, he went to prison for one of his sons who had killed a man. Apparently this was a practice that was allowed then. We do not know who the son was or the name of the man he killed at present. Any help greatly appreciated. Thanks to all who has responded to my HENDON mention. Sorry, I have been out of town and have not responded. We have a business and we are trying to get our tax stuff together before the tax man callest. Please, bear with me and I will answer to the list, the questions and comments. We were not going to get behind this year again, but.... you know the rest of the story. Thanks, Marilyn Dunn-Jenkins Tyler, TX
On the 21st of March I make a list of HENDON I found to help Marilyn out. I sent the list to the NCFRANKL-L list, just in case it would help someone else also. Usually when I post something to a list I get a copy back, and I did not, plus no other messages from this list. Did I get bounce off again, or having a problem I do not know about. Can anyone help me? I am trying to find the parents of four children born between 1789 and 1796. Their names were Green, Elizabeth, Tandy and Charity Walker. They were in Granville Co. NC in about 1806 to at least 1815. Green Walker died about 1814 and his esrate was in Franklin Co. Elizabeth's middle name was Nichols. According to census records there seemed to be a large number of Walker and Nichol families in Franklin Co. Family tradition says that these children had a James mother married to a Walker man. I think Elizabeth Nichols Walker had a Nichol grandmother or grandfather? Any help appreciated, thank you.
