Since this list has been so quiet, I thought I'd post a little something! My Edgecombe Co. ancestors are of African-American descent, and as yet I have been unable to break the Civil War barrier (possibly because my ancestors may have been enslaved before then). Among my earliest known ancestors in Edgecombe Co. are my g-g-gp, Sandy KNIGHT (born about 1843) and Eliza KNIGHT (born about 1845) (KNIGHT appears to have been her maiden name as well). The earliest record I have of them is their marriage on 11 Jan 1867 in Edgecombe Co., NC. They do not appear in the 1860 census of Edgecombe Co. It is said among my relatives that this couple had 22 children, although I have only been able to identify 16 of them through census records of 1870 and later. (If you are interested in their names, let me know!). One of their sons, Cornelius KNIGHT (my g-gf, b. 28 Feb 1872, d. 27 Nov 1951), married Lizzie WATSON (b. 06 Apr 1880, d. 8 Feb 1953) in about 1897. Lizzie WATSON's parents (and another set of my g-g-gp) were David WATSON (born about 1852) and Celia (Celie?) KILLEBREW (born about 1854). The earliest record I have of them is the 1880 Census of Edgecombe Co., Lower Conetoe Twp. I could not find them in the 1870 Edgecombe Co. census. If anyone out there has any information on these KNIGHTs or WATSONs (or possible relations), please write! Thanks, Karen
