    3. Audrey, It seems I have looked this one up for you before to no avail, but I looked again and this time noticed something I didn't the first time: Jno. H. Savage 40 M (no occupation, birthplace listed as Virginia) C. 35 F (born in N.C., illiterate) W.H. 13 M A. 11 F J.S. 5 M G. 3 M N.D. 1 F Isn't it maddening that the census taker chose to list everyone only by initials?? The G. age 3 is close enough to be your George. And, all the children's birth places are listed as N.C. Hope this helps, Traci the Librarian ____________________________________________________________________ From: AaronGFett@aol.com To: NCEDGECO-L@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [NCEDGECO] Re: 1850 census lookup-Savage Hi Friends, I'm hoping someone can help me with a look up in the 1850 census of Edgecomb of my g g grandfather George Acrile Savage. He was born 1846 to James H. Savage and Kate Barfield how married in Tarboro. I'm hoping to find out who George's siblings were and where his father James was born. I have conflicting info at the moment...one record says NC and another says VA. Thanks so very much for your help!! 3. Traci, I read somewhere the census takers had a field copy they worked with each day that had all the information on it. They would then make a copy for the census bureau, a copy for the state and a copy for the county. Often the copy that had only initals was not the original for the census bureau but the only one surviving which could have been the local copy that was posted in each county. Have you ever seen any thing to verify this?
