Any information on two Stokes men mentioned in early Edgecombe county records? Jones Stokes and Sylvanius Stokes had land transactions 1739-1740..Tar Riv, Deep Creek area. Christopher Guin and John Yelverton were mentioned. Where could this group have migrated from? Are the John and Sarah Stokes who are in the same time, place frame connected to them? Any help greatly appreciated. Thanks Mayme Porter
There is a Sylvanus Stokes in Surry/Sussex County, Virginia about this time. I do know that my Longbottom/Bottom/Bottoms family came from there in about 1750 (about the age that they obtained adulthood). Also, it seems that my family traveled back and forth between the two places fairly frequently. I hope this might help.
