Pete, I think his estate record is it. There's no will for him in my Edgecombe books and no will for him anywhere, at least according to the book North Carolina Wills: A Testator Index, 1665-1900. However, Camel (Campbell) McDaniel and Daniel McDaniel left one, if you need those. Charles certainly seems to be an elusive character; all the other McDaniels appear frequently in my deed and court minutes books, but Charles doesn't. A "C.McDaniel" appears once, witnessing the sale of a slave in 1798. This would lead me to believe that he either 1.) lived with a family member or 2.) absented himself for a number of years, coming back here shortly before death. Just semi-educated guesses...Daniel McDaniel says he has a son Charles in his will, and leaves to him "planation where I now live after my wife's death." Perhaps he returned to Edgecombe after his father's death? (1792) Keep in mind that my deed books only go to 1802, so he could very well be mentioned later on and I wouldn't know. Traci the Librarian petecokr <petecokr@bellsouth.net Hi Tracy and Listers I am looking for information on Charles McDANIEL. Will especially. Jacob COKER was admr. Jan 1805, Feb Court 1807 were inventory dates 1790 and 1800 indices do not show a Charles McDaniel in Edgecombe County, NC 1800 index shows two Charles McDANIELS in SC and one in Washington, Dist of C if anyone has a family sheet or will on this gent, I would appreciate copy. Please and Thank you, Pete Coker Oviedo, FL 32765-8929 Please direct all correspondence to <petecokr@bellsouth.net> ______________________________ Becky, Upon looking further, I found this in my estate record book (1730-1820, by Joseph Watson:) "Stephenson (Stevens), George, dec'd., guardian return made by Fras. Griffis, guardian to his orphans, Shadrack and Mary Stephenson, Feb. Ct. 1762. Another return was made by said Francis Griffis, guardian to these two orphans, Jan. Ct. 1765." I had previously passed over the will of a George Stephenson, because of the "-son" and because no Shadrack or Mary is mentioned in the will: "George (G) Stephenson 25 June 1752 Aug. Ct. 1754 '...being weak in body...' To Joseph Stephenson (son of my brother Wm. Stephenson) - Negro Pat. To Joseph Stephenson - bed. To Jesse Stephenson (son of my brother Charles) - Negroes Harrie and Bette. To William Stephenson (son of my brother Charles Stephenson) - Negroes Rose, Robin, and Jack. To the said William Stephenson - my plantation where I now live. Ex. William Stephenson Wit. Henry Horn, Elizabeth (x) Horn, Sihon (S) Horn" (Abstract by David Gammon) Traci >From : "Becky Carden" <rec@hiwaay.net> Traci, Thank so much for this information. I have seen some of this before. I am trying to determine, if my Stephen Stephens, who was born in 1773 was the son of the George Stephens, son of Shadrack and Lucy. My Stephen Stephens, named his first born child, a son, George! Everyone I have been in contact with, seems to think this is a match. Do you have any information on the children of George Stephens? Thanks again, I appreciate it very much.
