Karen, Since you haven't gotten before the 20th century, you will probably have to go to or contact the county courthouse to do research. The Register of Deeds is Mrs. Judy Cole and her email address is jcolerod@aol.com The phone number is 252-641-7924 and the address is Register of Deeds 301 St. Andrew St. Tarboro, N.C. 27886 In case you don't know, main records that the courthouse has are birth and death certificates, wills, deeds, and marriage records. Keep in mind that birth and death records were kept in N.C. starting in 1913. Here at the library we have mostly transcribed records going up to Civil War era. I also have the local paper to the present time, and the census records to 1920.
