    3. Audrey, I can't remember if I've told you this already, but census indexes show a James Savage in Edgecombe in 1840, and a James H. Savage in Nash County. The 1850 index shows two James Savages in Northampton County, VA. I couldn't find any in N.C. (This doesn't account for strange spellings and index errors.) Traci the Librarian _____________________________________________________________________ From: AaronGFett@aol.com Dear Listers, I am trying to find some evidence as to where my great Grandfather George Acrile Savage was born. I know that his parents James H. Savage (d. @1810 said to be of Surry co, Va) and Catherine Barfield married in Tarboro, Edgecomb co in Aug 1834 and George Acrile Savage was born to James and "Kate" on 23 Aug 1846. (also don't have proof of any siblings names). George married Sara E. Phillips 20 Dec 1866 in Enfield, Halifax co, 2nd marr. to catherine Savannah Robbins also in Enfield and he died in Roanoke Rapids 31 May 1916. (George had a cotton farn in Enfield but lost that farm to debtors during a bad drought year. He was also a soldier in the civil war but mustered out of Richmond, Va??) ((one of George and Sara's children, Bettie May Savage married my great grandfather, Stephen Shadrack Spivey who's parents were John W. Spivey and Mary Ann Margaret Soursby. My Spivey's also lived in Halifax and prior to that in Northampton)) All this what county was formed when stuff is quite confusing. Halifax was part of Edgecomb at one tine? Were they both part of Northampton at one time? Any help would be most appreciated! Audrey Orlando, FL ______________________________ Dawn, Great! I'm glad it helped a little. Traci ______________________________________ From: "Dawn Conner Jeppesen" <frwhlngrl@mail1.stofanet.dk> Actually Traci, you are most helpful! At least I have this as fact now. I guess it's a good thing that I like to solve puzzles...lol. Genealogy is in fact a puzzle. Thank you for all the help you provide. Dawn Conner-Jeppesen http://www.geocities.com/frwhlngrl/ ________________________________________________________________ Hi, The only information I could find linking a Benjamin Andrews to this area are some deeds: "John Drew of Edgecombe Co. to Benjamin Andrews of same. 13 Sept. 1761. 46 pounds proclamation. 225 acres which was part of patent to Samuel Peacock 28 Sept. 1743, on the north side of the Great Contenteny Creek, joining Toisnot Swamp, James Farrer. Wit.: Rich'd Grubbs, John Watsman, John Stringer. Sept. Ct. 1761." "Solomon Nettles of Edgecombe co. to Benjamin Andrews of same. 28 Feb. 1769. 50 pounds proclamation. 225 acres which was part of a grant to Zachariah Brown on Sappony Swamp, joining Spring Branch." "Benjamin Andrews to William Hamilton and Company of Dobbs Co. 90 pounds proclamation. 200 acres which was part of a patent to Samuel Peacock..." "Benjamin Andrews [Andrus] of Edgecombe Co. to David Pender of Nansemond Co. Va. 25 Feb. 1773...300 acres which was part of a 500 acre tract purchased from Solomon Nettle...also signed by Mary (X) Andrews [Andrus] who relinquished right of dower." "Benjamin Andrews [Andrus] planter of Edgecombe Co. to Thomas Moral of same. 19 April 1773...200 acres which was part of land sd. Benjamin Andrews purchased from Solomon Nettle..." Before the first one I listed he doesn't show up in the deeds, and he doesn't appear again after the last (1773) one. His name doesn't occur in any of my other books, including wills, estates records, and marriage records. He's not in my N.C. Testator Index (wills), and there's no Benjamin Andrews (of any related spelling) on the N.C. 1790 census. Hope that helps. Traci the Librarian ____________________________________________ From: CDVal808@aol.com Hi Listers, I am new to this list and wondering if anyone has information on Benjamin ANDREWS ( ca. 1735 - 1822 ) or his wife Mary HARGRAVE (ca. 1747 - 1807 ) married about 1758. I have several people who have said they came from Edgecomb Co., but they have not been able to give me a source where this information came from. Father of Mary is suppose to be Benjamin HARGRAVE. Would appreciate any help on this. ______________________________ _________________________________________________________________ Get your FREE download of MSN Explorer at http://explorer.msn.com
