Can someone please give me the breakdown of how Edgecombe was split into different counties? I had the information saved to a file, but can't seem to find it now. Thanks, Don Bulloch
All, The North Carolina county formation maps are listed by year under a link entitled "Formation of NC Counties"at: http://www.rootsweb.com/~ncgenweb/ There is an alphabetical listing of counties that tells when and how each was formed under the first link on the same page above. That link is entitled "NCGenWeb County Pages". >From what I happen to know plus what I find from those two sources above, this much is known: 1741: Edgecombe is formed from part of Bertie. 1746: Granville is formed from the Northwestern part of Edgecombe. 1758: Halifax County was formed from the Northern tier of Edgecombe. 1777: Nash County formed from the Western side of Edgecombe. 1855: Wilson was formed from parts of Edgecombe, Johnston, Nash, and Wayne. Did I overlook any thing? Wes Coleman On Saturday, November 10, 2001 6:53 AM, Don Bulloch wrote: < Can someone please give me the breakdown of how Edgecombe was split into different counties? Hi Don, Edgecombe was carved out of southwestern Bertie c. 1741. Carved from Edgecombe were: Halifax (1758), Nash (1777), and Wilson (1855) All of this and more, including "parent" counties and various maps illustrating the changes, can be found on the Edgecombe NCGenWeb page: <http://www.geocities.com/ncedgecombe/edgecombe_maps.html> Cheers, Victoria At 07:53 AM 11/10/01 -0500, you wrote: >Can someone please give me the breakdown of how Edgecombe was split into different counties?
