    3. Hi Shirley & Pete, I transcribed a lot of the Edgecombe Co. Court Minutes from LDS Microfilm reels, spanning the period from 1757 - 1800, and donated all the work to the Edgecombe Co. USGENWEB page. It was uploaded to the site on February 6, 2000 at the following URL: http://www.rootsweb.com/~usgenweb/nc/edgenc.htm I just now searched for it, and found that the Edgecombe webpage has been transferred to a GeoCities site, and for some reason my transcripts have now been excluded. I wasn't aware that the the page was no longer under Rootsweb.com. Luckily, I kept a copy of it in my computer, so if you'll let me know the surname you're researching, I'll check for you. Does such a printing exist covering the latter 1700s and early 1800s? I would appreciate the information, if available. 3. Francie, I'm forwarding this to Mike DeLoach, the North Carolina File Manager for USGenWeb Archives. I only manage Franklin, Caswell & Granville Cos. He can probably find out what happened to the court minutes -Mark Murphy Francie Lane wrote: > Hi Shirley & Pete, > I transcribed a lot of the Edgecombe Co. 3. Francie, I am researching all the PORTER families in Edgecombe Co. NC. Would very much like for you to check for that surname in the court records if you could. And thank you for transcribing these records. 1. [NCEDGECO] County Court Minutes
    2. Francie Lane
    3. Hello All ~ Thank you Mark for your assistance. My Edgecombe County Court Minutes are still "on-line" -- under the USGenWeb Archives for North Carolina - Edgecombe Co. Why there is now a distinction between these archived records and Edgecombe's Co. Webpage archives is beyond my comprehension. Maybe one of the webpage administrators could explain it, but in the mean time -- my Court Minutes are still up & available. Sorry I don't have time to personally answer the many requests for look-ups, but you'll be able to check your surnames here: http://www.rootsweb.com/~usgenweb/nc/edgenc.htm Scroll down to the heading "Court Records". There are two sections: 1757-1784 and 1784-1800. Note: My transcriptions contain only those portions extracted from Edgecombe Court Minutes that had some relevance to my various family lines. Good luck to you all! Francie

Hi Francie, Awhh, no one would ever exclude your transcripts. :-) You were just looking in two different places - the USGenWeb Archives site and the NCGenWeb county page site. The two sites are linked to each other but are not identical. I know it can be a little confusing but your files are still in the same place as they were in Feb 2000. The Court Minutes were uploaded to the USGenWeb Archives and are listed on the Table of Contents page for Edgecombe County at: http://www.rootsweb.com/~usgenweb/nc/edgenc.htm The Edgecombe NCGenWeb (county) page, located on GeoCities since 1996, has a link to the Archives on the main page at: http://www.geocities.com/ncedgecombe/ We're all part of the USGenWeb Project, just different "branches", so to speak, with different administrators. Folks who want to view your Court Minutes files can find them either by visiting the county site page, Court Records, at http://www.geocities.com/ncedgecombe/edgecombe_court.html or by visiting the Archives Table of Contents page or by going directly to the files: Court Minutes, Pleas & Quarter Sessions (1757-1784) <http://ftp.rootsweb.com/pub/usgenweb/nc/edgecombe/court/1757par.txt> Court Minutes. Pleas & Quarter Sessions (1784-1800) <http://ftp.rootsweb.com/pub/usgenweb/nc/edgecombe/court/1784.txt> Folks who want to do a quick search to see if the Court Minutes include the names of their ancestors can use the Search Engine on the county Search Engines page: http://www.geocities.com/ncedgecombe/edgecombe_searches.html (Scroll down to get to the USGenWeb Archives Search Engine, select "Edgecombe") or, they can use the Search Engine provided by the Archives at: http://www.rootsweb.com/~usgenweb/nc/ncsearch.htm Cheers, Victoria Victoria Proctor Edgecombe County NCGenWeb http://www.geocities.com/ncedgecombe/
