Hi list, I don't know how many of you are aware of this but there are laws on the books now to protect our cemeteries in North Carolina. I contacted the Register of Deeds for Duplin County and he did not have the list of abandoned cemeteries that the County Commissioners are required by law to provide. Won't you please take a few minutes and go to the page I have added to the Duplin site and read the statutes and the email I sent to the county commissioners regarding the plight of our cemeteries history and heritage. http://www.rootsweb.com/~ncduplin/dupcemendanger.htm Also, if each of you would take a few minutes and contact one or all of the commissioners it would be greatly appreciated. We all need to work together to preserve the cemeteries for ourselves and future generations! I also need volunteers that are willing to take some time once a week, twice a week, once a month or as often as you can to go out and transcribe the cemeteries in Duplin County.
