    3. The North Carolina Gazetteer, a Dictionary of Tar Heel Places, by William S. Powell page 55, says there is a Bluefield, community in south central Bladen county. Named for John Blue. Beaufort, town and county seat in south central Carteret County, listed page 32 of same book as above. Beaufort (Boe-furt) County was first called Pamptecough Precinct when it was formed in 1705 from Bath County; the name was changed to Beaufort about 1712 to honor Henry Somerset, Duke of Beaufort (1684-1714), who in 1709 became one of the Lords Proprietors. page 32, same book as above.
