Since the JONES surname has been discussed recently, I would like to ask if anyone can help me identify Lavina JONES. I know absolutely nothing about her except the following bond dated 1802. Max Peterson's abstract is below, followed by my transcription of the actual bond. Alexander Carrell is my ancestor I am researching. I don't think this is a marriage bond. Alexander married Lucy Ryal in 1783 and was still married to her when he wrote his will in 1827. The wording does not seem to be a bastardy bond, since both Alexander and Lavina are posting bond. I'm not sure of David Dodd's position at that time, but I do know that his name is on several documents. I assume he is the Clerk of Court. I have a theory! I have decided that Dempsey Carrell, Sr. is Alexander Carrell's father based on DNA results and deeds. I have reason to believe he died around 1802, but I have found no will or estate papers. I think this bond may have been posted to show in good faith that they would settle his estate. That leads me to believe that Lavina Jones was Alexander Carrell/Carrol's sister. So far I have not found an estate settlement record. Does anyone in the JONES family have a wife named Lavina about that time? Someone recently mentioned a book that had a complete genealogy of the JONES family. What is the name of the book, and where can it be located? What other resources are available for JONES research in Duplin/Sampson Counties?
