Ben and list, I have just obtained a copy of the Oath of Allegiance and Abjuration Act >From the New Bern-Craven County Library. I have posted it to the web site in Hopes that it will help any researchers that are interested in it. http://www.rootsweb.com/~ncduplin/oath.htm This act was written on 15 Nov 1777 while the legislature met in New Bern. It required all state officials (and possibly county officials), including Justices of the Peace, to swear an oath of allegiance to the State of North Carolina and to renounce allegiance to Parliament and the King of Great Britain. The copy of the wording came from the Colonial and State Records of North Carolina edited by Clark and Saunders (vol. 24 page 103). I hope some of you will find it useful as Ben has been working hard trying To find a copy of it, so here it is for everyone. Enjoy! I know James Lockart turned out to be James Lockhart. Richard Herring was John Herring. I am wondering if there were not four brothers or father and sons who signed Robert and William Dickson, and instead of Joseph Dicks but Joseph Dickson And Thomas R. Was Thomas R. Dickson. If your contact at the library has access to a clear copy of the original Document he may be able to confirm the names. Ben PS. Hope I am not imposing to much. Your assistance is very much appreciated In this matter. ----- Original Message ----- From: Ben Cooper To: [email protected] Sent: Tuesday, December 12, 2006 10:47 PM Subject: Re: Duplin County Diane, I have been watching with interest your posting of additional deeds In Duplin County.
