    3. Diane, Over the past 20 years I have visited the Duplin Co. Historical Society, mainly when Dr. Herring was still alive. Several years before he died I had asked his permission to copy all the bible records and other records of interest that I could find in his vertical files and else where and submit copies to other Genealogy societies such as the Heritage Room in Kinston and to also put them on the county sites for others to use. He was always very enthusiastic about this and would always give me permission; as long as I did not use them for personal gain or publish the information. I have always given him and the Duplin Co. Historical Society credit for these records and a special thanks to him. He was a wonderful person. Since his death the society name has changed to the Duplin Co. Historical Foundation. Hopefully they will continue to give us permission and will follow his wonderful example. One of his dreams was to put the Leslie Brown cards on the computer, and I am trying to follow his dream of putting them on the computer for everyone to utilize. The Foundation does stand to make quite a lot of money from us, not only from the Leslie Brown cards, but other materials that researchers will want copies of that are in the library. The cards are a stepping stone to give others information, which will lead to new information. Little do they know that this will make researchers more interested in visiting the library and obtaining copies of other information that is there. I think since it has been winter and there has been little to no interest in the library they are running scared. I believe that once the weather starts warming up and people start travelling they will see a renewed interest and flow of traffic through the library. I have spoken with some people that knew Dallas and Leslie very well and they say that I am doing what both of them would want to see done...sharing their research with others that might never have the chance to go to Duplin to see or get copies of their information. I find it impossible to understand how Any organization based on an appreciation of history could withhold Permission to genealogists wishing to share information about family History. Maybe the foundation has observed this new groundswell of Interest and is considering the potential to profit from publishing The cards themselves. I hope that is not the case. I appreciate your work to make the content of the cards accessible to All. I have a feeling that accessibility to information was behind The development of the cards from the start. 3. Sloan, Dallas Herring was always free hearted with his information and would share it with any researcher that showed up on his doorstep. I am 100 % positive that he would back us up on posting the information to the site, especially since we have Leslie Brown's information on the main page linking to the family cards. I don't understand what the problem with the Foundation would be, except for the fear that they don't have the funds to keep the library up and running. I know of a couple of people that have volunteered to work (for free) at the library to open it up for researchers to come in and do research and unfortunately they were turned down, although the Foundation continues to say they don't have enough volunteers to keep the library open. I think they may be afraid that they won't be able to make money from the cards if we have them posted online, but like I said before these cards will lead researchers to go down new avenues for information and will in turn lead them to going to the library to make copies of other materials. I also hope they will stand behind Dallas Herring's dream of keeping the library open to everyone as well as sharing the information as he did.
